अहानि युयुधे भीष्मॊ दशैव परमास्त्रवित अहानि पञ्च दरॊणस तु ररक्ष कुरु वाहिनीम ।। १-२-२६ ।।

'Bhishma acquainted with the choice of weapons, fought for ten days while Drona protected the Kaurava Vahinis for five days.'।। 1-2-26 ।।

english translation

ahAni yuyudhe bhISmò dazaiva paramAstravita ahAni paJca daròNasa tu rarakSa kuru vAhinIma || 1-2-26 ||

'Karna, the formidable warrior, fought for two days, while Shalya, wielding the mace, engaged in the battle for a day, and thereafter, the conflict escalated further.'।। 1-2-27 ।।

'It is a work whose description, diction, and sense are varied and wonderful. It contains an account of various manners and rites. It is accepted by the wise, as the state called Vairagya is by men desirous of final release.'।। 1-2-30 ।।
