अहानि युयुधे भीष्मॊ दशैव परमास्त्रवित अहानि पञ्च दरॊणस तु ररक्ष कुरु वाहिनीम ॥ १-२-२६ ॥
'Bhishma acquainted with the choice of weapons, fought for ten days while Drona protected the Kaurava Vahinis for five days.'॥ 1-2-26 ॥

अहनी युयुधे दवे तु कर्णः परबलार्दनः शल्यॊ ऽरधदिवसं तव आसीद गदायुद्धम अतः परम ॥ १-२-२७ ॥
'Karna, the formidable warrior, fought for two days, while Shalya, wielding the mace, engaged in the battle for a day, and thereafter, the conflict escalated further.'॥ 1-2-27 ॥

तस्यैव तु दिनस्यान्ते हार्दिक्य दरौणिगौतमाः परसुप्तं निशि विश्वस्तं जघ्नुर यौधिष्ठिरं बलम ॥ १-२-२८ ॥
'At the end of that day, with darkness enveloping the battlefield, the sons of Drona, led by Dhrishtadyumna, skillfully vanquished the army of Yudhishthira.'॥ 1-2-28 ॥

यत तु शौनक सत्रे तु भारताख्यान विस्तरम आख्यास्ये तत्र पौलॊमम आख्यानं चादितः परम ॥ १-२-२९ ॥
'In the assembly of Shonaka, I will elaborate on the extensive narrative known as Bharata, and I will also present the story of Pauloma as it has been traditionally told.'॥ 1-2-29 ॥

विचित्रार्थपदाख्यानम अनेकसमयान्वितम अभिपन्नं नरैः पराज्ञैर वैराग्यम इव मॊक्षिभिः ॥ १-२-३० ॥
'It is a work whose description, diction, and sense are varied and wonderful. It contains an account of various manners and rites. It is accepted by the wise, as the state called Vairagya is by men desirous of final release.'॥ 1-2-30 ॥
