अत्राध्यायास तरयः परॊक्ताः शलॊकानां च शतं तथा विंशतिश च तथा शलॊकाः संख्यातास तत्त्वदर्शिना ॥ १-२-२३१ ॥
' In this, eighteen chapters have been elucidated, along with one hundred verses and twenty additional verses, totaling the profound insights into the truth.' ॥ 1-2-231 ॥

atrAdhyAyAsa tarayaH paròktAH zalòkAnAM ca zataM tathA viMzatiza ca tathA zalòkAH saMkhyAtAsa tattvadarzinA ॥ 1-2-231 ॥

' Hence, the Svargaparva, identified as the celestial one, is to be known as beyond the human realm. It comprises five chapters, and this Parva, enumerated in detail, consists of two hundred verses, O wealth of asceticism.' ॥ 1-2-232 ॥

savargaparva tatò jaJeyaM divyaM yata tada amAnuSama adhyAyAH paJca saMkhyAtA parvaitada abhisaMkhyayA zalòkAnAM dave zate caiva parasaMkhyAte tapòdhanAH ॥ 1-2-232 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअष्टादशैवम एतानि पर्वाण्य उक्तान्य अशेषतः खिलेषु हरिवंशश च भविष्यच च परकीर्तितम ॥ १-२-२३३ ॥
' Eighteen, indeed, are these Parvas, as mentioned, covering the entire scope of the Mahabharata, including the Harivamsha, and those yet to come, which are foretold.' ॥ 1-2-233 ॥

aSTAdazaivama etAni parvANya uktAnya azeSataH khileSu harivaMzaza ca bhaviSyaca ca parakIrtitama ॥ 1-2-233 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएतद अखिलम आख्यातं भारतं पर्व संग्रहात अष्टादश समाजग्मुर अक्षौहिण्यॊ युयुत्सया तन महद दारुणं युद्धम अहान्य अष्टादशाभवत ॥ १-२-२३४ ॥
' All of this Bharata, encompassing the Parvas, emerged from the compilation. With an eighteen-fold Akshauhini, the great war, known as the Mahabharata, occurred for eighteen days, causing terrible destruction.' ॥ 1-2-234 ॥

etada akhilama AkhyAtaM bhArataM parva saMgrahAta aSTAdaza samAjagmura akSauhiNyò yuyutsayA tana mahada dAruNaM yuddhama ahAnya aSTAdazAbhavata ॥ 1-2-234 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयॊ विद्याच चतुरॊ वेदान साङ्गॊपनिषदान दविजः न चाख्यानम इदं विद्यान नैव स सयाद विचक्षणः ॥ १-२-२३५ ॥
' He who knows the four Vedas with all the Angas and Upanishads, but does not know this history (Bharata), cannot be regarded as wise.' ॥ 1-2-235 ॥
