एतद अखिलम आख्यातं भारतं पर्व संग्रहात अष्टादश समाजग्मुर अक्षौहिण्यॊ युयुत्सया तन महद दारुणं युद्धम अहान्य अष्टादशाभवत ॥ १-२-२३४ ॥
' All of this Bharata, encompassing the Parvas, emerged from the compilation. With an eighteen-fold Akshauhini, the great war, known as the Mahabharata, occurred for eighteen days, causing terrible destruction.' ॥ 1-2-234 ॥
