परसुप्तान निशि विश्वस्तान यत्र ते पुरुषर्षभाः पाञ्चालान सपरीवाराञ जघ्नुर दरौणिपुरॊगमाः ॥ १-२-१८१ ॥
'Accompanied by Kritavarman and Kripa, Aswatthama mercilessly slew all the sons of Draupadi, along with the unsuspecting Panchalas led by Dhrishtadyumna and their kinsmen. This ruthless act occurred under the cover of night, catching them off guard and defenseless ' ॥ 1-2-181 ॥

यत्रामुच्यन्त पार्थास ते पञ्च कृष्ण बलाश्रयात सात्यकिश च महेष्वासः शेषाश च निधनं गताः ॥ १-२-१८२ ॥
'All perished on that fatal night except the five Pandavas and the great warrior Satyaki. Those escaped owing to Krishna's counsels, and the formidable warrior Shesha, met their tragic end.' ॥ 1-2-182 ॥

दरौपदी पुत्रशॊकार्ता पितृभ्रातृवधार्दिता कृतानशन संकल्पा यत्र भर्तॄन उपाविशत ॥ १-२-१८३ ॥
'Then Draupadi distressed at the death of her sons and brothers and father sat before her lords and resolved to kill herself by fasting.' ॥ 1-2-183 ॥

दरौपदी वचनाद यत्र भीमॊ भीमपराक्रमः अन्वधावत संक्रुद्धॊ भरद्वाजं गुरॊः सुतम ॥ १-२-१८४ ॥
'In response to Draupadi's words, where Bhima, known for his mighty valor, enraged and charged forward, pursuing the son of Bharadwaja (Drona), his teacher.' ॥ 1-2-184 ॥

भीमसेन भयाद यत्र दैवेनाभिप्रचॊदितः अपाण्डवायेति रुषा दरौणिर अस्त्रम अवासृजत ॥ १-२-१८५ ॥
'The son of Drona from fear of Bhimasena and impelled by the fates and moved also by anger discharged a celestial weapon saying, 'This is for the destruction of all the Pandavas;' ॥ 1-2-185 ॥
