उद्यॊगपर्व विज्ञेयं पञ्चमं शृण्वतः परम उपप्लव्ये निविष्टेषु पाण्डवेषु जिगीषया दुर्यॊधनॊ ऽरजुनश चैव वासुदेवम उपस्थितौ ॥ १-२-१३६ ॥
' Listen then to (the contents of) the fifth Parva which must be known as Udyoga. While the Pandavas, desirous of victory, were residing in the place called Upaplavya, Duryodhana and Arjuna both went at the same time to Vasudeva, ' ॥ 1-2-136 ॥
english translation
udyògaparva vijJeyaM paJcamaM zRNvataH parama upaplavye niviSTeSu pANDaveSu jigISayA duryòdhanò 'rajunaza caiva vAsudevama upasthitau ॥ 1-2-136 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसाहाय्यम अस्मिन समरे भवान नौ कर्तुम अर्हति इत्य उक्ते वचने कृष्णॊ यत्रॊवाच महामतिः ॥ १-२-१३७ ॥
' In response to these words, where Krishna was told, "You are worthy to provide assistance in this war," the mighty-minded Krishna spoke.' ॥ 1-2-137 ॥

sAhAyyama asmina samare bhavAna nau kartuma arhati itya ukte vacane kRSNò yatròvAca mahAmatiH ॥ 1-2-137 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअयुध्यमानम आत्मानं मन्त्रिणं पुरुषर्षभौ अक्षौहिणीं वा सैन्यस्य कस्य वा किं ददाम्य अहम ॥ १-२-१३८ ॥
' "The high-souled Krishna, upon these words being uttered, replied, "O ye first of men, a counselor in myself who will not fight and one Akshauhini of troops, which of these shall I give to which of you?".' ॥ 1-2-138 ॥
english translation
ayudhyamAnama AtmAnaM mantriNaM puruSarSabhau akSauhiNIM vA sainyasya kasya vA kiM dadAmya ahama ॥ 1-2-138 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवव्रे दुर्यॊधनः सैन्यं मन्दात्मा यत्र दुर्मतिः अयुध्यमानं सचिवं वव्रे कृष्णं धनंजयः ॥ १-२-१३९ ॥
' Blind to his interests, the foolish Duryodhana asked for the troops; while Arjuna solicited Krishna as an unarmed counsellor.' ॥ 1-2-139 ॥

vavre duryòdhanaH sainyaM mandAtmA yatra durmatiH ayudhyamAnaM sacivaM vavre kRSNaM dhanaMjayaH ॥ 1-2-139 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसंजयं परेषयाम आस शमार्थं पाण्डवान परति यत्र दूतं महाराजॊ धृतराष्ट्रः परतापवान ॥ १-२-१४० ॥
' Then is described how King Dhritarashtra of great prowess, having heard the word of the purohita of the Pandavas and the story of Indra's victory decided upon sending his purohita and ultimately despatched Sanjaya as envoy to the Pandavas from desire for peace.' ॥ 1-2-140 ॥
