यदि राज्यं न ते पराप्ताः पाण्डवेयास तपस्विनः कुत एव तवापीदं भारतस्य च कस्य चित ॥ १-१९५-६ ॥
'If the illustrious sons of Pandu do not obtain the kingdom, how can it rightfully belong to you or to any other descendant of the Bharata lineage?' ॥ 1-195-6 ॥
english translation
अथ धर्मेण राज्यं तवं पराप्तवान भरतर्षभ ते ऽपि राज्यम अनुप्राप्ताः पूर्वम एवेति मे मतिः ॥ १-१९५-७ ॥
'If you consider yourself to have rightfully acquired the kingdom, then I believe they too can be considered to have rightfully acquired this kingdom before you.' ॥ 1-195-7 ॥
english translation
मधुरेणैव राज्यस्य तेषाम अर्धं परदीयताम एतद धि पुरुषव्याघ्र हितं सर्वजनस्य च ॥ १-१९५-८ ॥
'Quietly give them half of the kingdom. This, O tiger among men, is beneficial for everyone.' ॥ 1-195-8 ॥
english translation
अतॊ ऽनयथा चेत करियते न हितं नॊ भविष्यति तवाप्य अकीर्तिः सकला भविष्यति न संशयः ॥ १-१९५-९ ॥
'Therefore, if it is not done in this manner, it will not be beneficial, and your reputation will also suffer greatly without a doubt.' ॥ 1-195-9 ॥

कीर्तिरक्षणम आतिष्ठ कीर्तिर हि परमं बलम नष्टकीर्तेर मनुष्यस्य जीवितं हय अफलं समृतम ॥ १-१९५-१० ॥
'O Duryodhana, endeavor to preserve your good reputation. A good name is truly the source of one's strength. It is said that a person lives in vain when their reputation is lost.' ॥ 1-195-10 ॥
