[आुर्व] उक्तवान अस्मि यां करॊधात परतिज्ञां पितरस तदा सर्वलॊकविनाशाय न सा मे वितथा भवेत ।। १-१७१-१ ।।

sanskrit

'The Gandharva continued, 'Vasishtha then went on to say, 'Upon hearing these words from the Pitris, Aurva replied to them, O child, saying: 'O Pitris, the vow I made in anger for the destruction of all worlds must not be in vain.'' ।। 1-171-1 ।।

english translation

[Aurva] uktavAna asmi yAM karòdhAta paratijJAM pitarasa tadA sarvalòkavinAzAya na sA me vitathA bhaveta || 1-171-1 ||

'I refuse to be someone whose anger and promises come to nothing. Like fire devouring dry wood, this rage of mine will surely consume me if I fail to fulfill my vow.' ।। 1-171-2 ।।

'The person who suppresses justified anger becomes unable to properly achieve the three aims of life: righteousness, wealth, and pleasure.' ।। 1-171-3 ।।

yò hi kAraNataH karòdhaM saMjAtaM kaSantuma arhati nAlaM sa manujaH samyaka tarivargaM parirakSituma || 1-171-3 ||

अशिष्टानां नियन्ता हि शिष्टानां परिरक्षता सथाने रॊषः परयुक्तः सयान नृपैः सवर्गजिगीषुभिः ।। १-१७१-४ ।।

'The controller of the uncultured, indeed the protector of the virtuous, anger is properly employed in that situation by kings desirous of conquering heaven.' ।। 1-171-4 ।।

'While I lay unborn within my mother's womb, I heard the lamentations of my mother and other women of the Bhrigu lineage who were being slaughtered by the Kshatriyas.' ।। 1-171-5 ।।
