अर्धं ते भुञ्जते वीराः सह मात्रा परंतपाः अर्धं भैक्षस्य सर्वस्य भीमॊ भुङ्क्ते महाबलः ॥ १-१४५-६ ॥

'The valiant sons, O scorcher of foes, consume half of the alms along with their mother, while the mighty Bhima consumes the other half of the entire alms.' ॥ 1-145-6 ॥

english translation

ardhaM te bhuJjate vIrAH saha mAtrA paraMtapAH ardhaM bhaikSasya sarvasya bhImò bhuGkte mahAbalaH ॥ 1-145-6 ॥

तथा तु तेषां वसतां तत्र राजन महात्मनाम अतिचक्राम सुमहान कालॊ ऽथ भरतर्षभ ॥ १-१४५-७ ॥

'But while they resided there, O king, the great and mighty Time passed by, as it does for all great souls.' ॥ 1-145-7 ॥

tathA tu teSAM vasatAM tatra rAjana mahAtmanAma aticakrAma sumahAna kAlò 'tha bharatarSabha ॥ 1-145-7 ॥

ततः कदा चिद भैक्षाय गतास ते भरतर्षभाः संगत्या भीमसेनस तु तत्रास्ते पृथया सह ॥ १-१४५-८ ॥

'On a certain day, while those noble scions of the Bharata lineage were out seeking alms, Bhima remained at home with his mother Pritha.' ॥ 1-145-8 ॥

अथार्तिजं महाशब्दं बराह्मणस्य निवेशने भृशम उत्पतितं घॊरं कुन्ती शुश्राव भारत ॥ १-१४५-९ ॥

'On that day, O Bharata, Kunti heard a loud and anguished cry emanating from the quarters of the Brahmana.' ॥ 1-145-9 ॥

'While they were all lamenting loudly, she, feeling deeply compassionate towards them, O king, unable to bear their sorrow, exhibited a virtuous demeanor.' ॥ 1-145-10 ॥
