बालॊ ऽपि यौवनं पराप्तॊ मानुषेषु विशां पते सर्वास्त्रेषु परं वीरः परकर्षम अगमद बली ॥ १-१४३-३१ ॥

'Despite being a child, he attained youth among humans, O lord of people. He became supremely skilled in all weapons and attained the highest prowess, being powerful.' ॥ 1-143-31 ॥

english translation

bAlò 'pi yauvanaM parAptò mAnuSeSu vizAM pate sarvAstreSu paraM vIraH parakarSama agamada balI ॥ 1-143-31 ॥

सद्यॊ हि गर्भं राक्षस्यॊ लभन्ते परसवन्ति च कामरूपधराश चैव भवन्ति बहुरूपिणः ॥ १-१४३-३२ ॥

'The Rakshasa women bring forth the very day they conceive, and capable of assuming any forms at will, they always change their forms.' ॥ 1-143-32 ॥

english translation

sadyò hi garbhaM rAkSasyò labhante parasavanti ca kAmarUpadharAza caiva bhavanti bahurUpiNaH ॥ 1-143-32 ॥

परणम्य विकचः पादाव अगृह्णात स पितुस तदा मातुश च परमेष्वासस तौ च नामास्य चक्रतुः ॥ १-१४३-३३ ॥

'And the bald-headed child, that mighty bowman, soon after his birth, bowing down to his mother, touched her feet and the feet also of his father. His parents then bestowed upon him a name.' ॥ 1-143-33 ॥

paraNamya vikacaH pAdAva agRhNAta sa pitusa tadA mAtuza ca parameSvAsasa tau ca nAmAsya cakratuH ॥ 1-143-33 ॥

घटभासॊत्कच इति मातरं सॊ ऽभयभाषत अभवत तेन नामास्य घटॊत्कच इति सम ह ॥ १-१४३-३४ ॥

'His mother having remarked that his head was (bald) like unto a Ghata (water-pot), both his parents thereupon called him Ghatotkacha (the pot-headed).' ॥ 1-143-34 ॥

ghaTabhAsòtkaca iti mAtaraM sò 'bhayabhASata abhavata tena nAmAsya ghaTòtkaca iti sama ha ॥ 1-143-34 ॥

अनुरक्तश च तान आसीत पाण्डवान स घटॊत्कचः तेषां च दयितॊ नित्यम आत्मभूतॊ बभूव सः ॥ १-१४३-३५ ॥

'And Ghatotkacha who was exceedingly devoted to the Pandavas, became a great favourite with them, indeed almost one of them.' ॥ 1-143-35 ॥
