[वै] अथ रात्र्यां वयतीतायाम अशॊषॊ नागरॊ जनः तत्राजगाम तवरितॊ दिदृक्षुः पाण्डुनन्दनान ॥ १-१३७-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'Then, when the night had passed away, a large concourse of the townspeople came there in haste to see the sons of Pandu.' ॥ 1-137-1 ॥
english translation
निर्वापयन्तॊ जवलनं ते जना ददृशुस ततः जातुषं तद्गृहं दग्धम अमात्यं च पुरॊचनम ॥ १-१३७-२ ॥
'Upon extinguishing the flames, they discovered that the house, which had been reduced to ashes, was constructed entirely of flammable lac, and that Duryodhana's advisor Purochana had perished in the fire.' ॥ 1-137-2 ॥
english translation
नूनं दुर्यॊधनेनेदं विहितं पापकर्मणा पाण्डवानां विनाशाय इत्य एवं चुक्रुषुर जनाः ॥ १-१३७-३ ॥
'The people lamented loudly, declaring, "Truly, this scheme was devised by the wicked Duryodhana to bring about the downfall of the Pandavas."' ॥ 1-137-3 ॥
english translation
विदिते धृतराष्ट्रस्य धार्तराष्ट्रॊ न संशयः दग्धवान पाण्डुदायादान न हय एनं परतिषिद्धवान ॥ १-१३७-४ ॥
'There is scant doubt that Duryodhana, with Dhritarashtra's complicity, orchestrated the burning to death of the Pandu lineage; otherwise, the prince would have been restrained by his father.' ॥ 1-137-4 ॥
english translation
नूनं शांतनवॊ भीष्मॊ न धर्मम अनुवर्तते दरॊणश च विदुरश चैव कृपश चान्ये च कौरवाः ॥ १-१३७-५ ॥
'Indeed, it is apparent that Bhishma, Shantanu's son, is not adhering to righteousness, nor are Drona, Vidura, Kripa, and other Kauravas.' ॥ 1-137-5 ॥
