ततॊ विरहितं दृष्ट्वा पितरं परतिपूज्य सः पौरानुराग संतप्तः पश्चाद इदम अभाषत ॥ १-१२९-११ ॥

'Duryodhana, upon encountering Dhritarashtra alone, greeted him with respect. Distressed by the citizens' favoritism towards Yudhishthira.' ॥ 1-129-11 ॥

शरुता मे जल्पतां तात परौराणाम अशिवा गिरः तवाम अनादृत्य भीष्मं च पतिम इच्छन्ति पाण्डवम ॥ १-१२९-१२ ॥

'Addressing the king, he said, "O father, I have heard unsettling words from the departing citizens. They disregard you and Bhishma, desiring the son of Pandu to be their king."' ॥ 1-129-12 ॥

zarutA me jalpatAM tAta paraurANAma azivA giraH tavAma anAdRtya bhISmaM ca patima icchanti pANDavama ॥ 1-129-12 ॥

मतम एतच च भीष्मस्य न स राज्यं बुभूषति अस्माकं तु परां पीडां चिकीर्षन्ति पुरे जनाः ॥ १-१२९-१३ ॥

'Continuing, he lamented, "This is Bhishma's wish as well; he has no desire for the kingdom. However, it seems the people of the city intend to cause us great distress."' ॥ 1-129-13 ॥

matama etaca ca bhISmasya na sa rAjyaM bubhUSati asmAkaM tu parAM pIDAM cikIrSanti pure janAH ॥ 1-129-13 ॥

पितृतः पराप्तवान राज्यं पाण्डुर आत्मगुणैः पुरा तवम अप्य अगुण संयॊगात पराप्तं राज्यं न लब्धवान ॥ १-१२९-१४ ॥

'In the past, Pandu acquired the ancestral kingdom through his own merits, whereas you, despite your qualifications, were denied the kingship due to your blindness.' ॥ 1-129-14 ॥

pitRtaH parAptavAna rAjyaM pANDura AtmaguNaiH purA tavama apya aguNa saMyògAta parAptaM rAjyaM na labdhavAna ॥ 1-129-14 ॥

स एष पाण्डॊर दायाद्यं यदि पराप्नॊति पाण्डवः तस्य पुत्रॊ धरुवं पराप्तस तस्य तस्येति चापरः ॥ १-१२९-१५ ॥

'If Pandu's son inherits the kingdom, it will pass on to his son after him, and then to his grandson, and so forth, continuing in Pandu's lineage.' ॥ 1-129-15 ॥
