तथा भीष्मः शांतनवः सत्यसंधॊ महाव्रतः परत्याख्याय पुरा राज्यं नाद्य जातु गरहीष्यति ॥ १-१२९-६ ॥
'Then Bhishma, the son of Santanu, known for his steadfast vows and devotion to truth, having once renounced the throne, would certainly not accept it now.' ॥ 1-129-6 ॥
english translation
tathA bhISmaH zAMtanavaH satyasaMdhò mahAvrataH paratyAkhyAya purA rAjyaM nAdya jAtu garahISyati ॥ 1-129-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptते वयं पाण्डवं जयेष्ठं तरुणं वृद्धशीलिनम अभिषिञ्चाम साध्व अद्य सत्यं करुणवेदिनम ॥ १-१२९-७ ॥
'Therefore, we shall now ceremonially install the eldest of the Pandavas, endowed with youth, skilled in battle, learned in the Vedas, and characterized by truthfulness and kindness, on the throne.' ॥ 1-129-7 ॥

te vayaM pANDavaM jayeSThaM taruNaM vRddhazIlinama abhiSiJcAma sAdhva adya satyaM karuNavedinama ॥ 1-129-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस हि भीष्मं शांतनवं धृतराष्ट्रं च धर्मवित सपुत्रं विविधैर भॊगैर यॊजयिष्यति पूजयन ॥ १-१२९-८ ॥
'Honoring Bhishma, the son of Santanu, and Dhritarashtra, well-versed in moral principles, he will undoubtedly provide for both them and their descendants, ensuring their enjoyment in every way.' ॥ 1-129-8 ॥

sa hi bhISmaM zAMtanavaM dhRtarASTraM ca dharmavita saputraM vividhaira bhògaira yòjayiSyati pUjayana ॥ 1-129-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेषां दुर्यॊधनः शरुत्वा तानि वाक्यानि भाषताम युधिष्ठिरानुरक्तानां पर्यतप्यत दुर्मतिः ॥ १-१२९-९ ॥
'Upon hearing the supportive words for Yudhishthira spoken by the citizens, the wretched Duryodhana, deeply afflicted by their loyalty towards Yudhishthira, was tormented.' ॥ 1-129-9 ॥

teSAM duryòdhanaH zarutvA tAni vAkyAni bhASatAma yudhiSThirAnuraktAnAM paryatapyata durmatiH ॥ 1-129-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptस तप्यमानॊ दुष्टात्मा तेषां वाचॊ न चक्षमे ईर्ष्यया चाभिसंतप्तॊ धृतराष्ट्रम उपागमत ॥ १-१२९-१० ॥
'Burning with envy and unable to tolerate their words, the wicked-minded Duryodhana, consumed by resentment, approached Dhritarashtra.' ॥ 1-129-10 ॥
