ततस तस्य नगस्थस्य कषुरेण निशितेन ह शिर उत्कृत्य तरसा पातयाम आस पाण्डवः ॥ १-१२३-६६ ॥
'And the latter instantly let fly (his arrow) and with his sharp shaft speedily struck off the head of the vulture on the tree and brought it down to the ground.' ॥ 1-123-66 ॥
english translation
तस्मिन कर्मणि संसिद्धे पर्यश्वजत फल्गुनम मेने च दरुपदं संख्ये सानुबन्धं पराजितम ॥ १-१२३-६७ ॥
'As soon as the deed was done, Drona embraced Phalguna, believing that Drupada and his allies had already been defeated in battle.' ॥ 1-123-67 ॥

कस्य चित तव अथ कालस्य सशिष्यॊ ऽङगिरसां वरः जगाम गङ्गाम अभितॊ मज्जितुं भरतर्षभ ॥ १-१२३-६८ ॥
'Later, O chief of the Bharata lineage, Drona, along with all his disciples, went to the bank of the Ganga to bathe in that sacred river.' ॥ 1-123-68 ॥

अवगाढम अथॊ दरॊणं सलिले सलिले चरः गराहॊ जग्राह बलवाञ जङ्घान्ते कालचॊदितः ॥ १-१२३-६९ ॥
'Gradually, Drona, while walking in the water, was seized by the powerful alligator at the behest of time, with its mighty jaws grasping his legs.' ॥ 1-123-69 ॥

स समर्थॊ ऽपि मॊक्षाय शिष्यान सर्वान अचॊदयत गराहं हत्वा मॊक्षयध्वं माम इति तवरयन्न इव ॥ १-१२३-७० ॥
'Despite being capable of freeing himself, he encouraged all his disciples to flee. As the alligator seized him, he urged them, "Save yourselves! Don't worry about me."' ॥ 1-123-70 ॥
