पुत्राणां जन्म वृद्धिं च वैदिकाध्ययनानि च पश्यतः सततं पाण्डॊः शश्वत परीतिर अवर्धत ॥ १-११७-२६ ॥
'As Pandu constantly witnessed the birth and growth of his sons, along with their Vedic studies, his eternal contentment grew.' ॥ 1-117-26 ॥

वर्तमानः सतां वृत्ते पुत्रलाभम अवाप्य च पितृलॊकं गतः पाण्डुर इतः सप्तदशे ऽहनि ॥ १-११७-२७ ॥
'Abiding steadfastly in the path of righteousness and wisdom, Pandu left this world seventeen days ago, leaving behind his children.' ॥ 1-117-27 ॥

तं चिता गतम आज्ञाय वैश्वानर मुखे हुतम परविष्टा पावकं माद्री हित्वा जीवितम आत्मनः ॥ १-११७-२८ ॥
'Observing her husband Pandu placed on the funeral pyre, Madri, without hesitation, joined him in the pyre, sacrificing her life to accompany her lord to the realm destined for faithful spouses.' ॥ 1-117-28 ॥

सा गता सह तेनैव पतिलॊकम अनुव्रता तस्यास तस्य च यत कार्यं करियतां तदनन्तरम ॥ १-११७-२९ ॥
'Having departed along with her husband to the realm of the departed, steadfast in her fidelity, whatever rites are to be performed for her and her husband shall be carried out later.' ॥ 1-117-29 ॥

इमे तयॊः शरीरे दवे सुताश चेमे तयॊर वराः करियाभिर अनुगृह्यन्तां सह मात्रा परंतपाः ॥ १-११७-३० ॥
'Perform now whatever rites are necessary for their benefit. Here are the remnants of their bodies, and here are their children—these warriors, along with their mother.' ॥ 1-117-30 ॥
