मानुषेषु महाभागे न तव एवान्येषु जन्तुषु तदा परभृति मर्यादा सथितेयम इति नः शरुतम ॥ १-११३-१६ ॥
'It has been heard by us, O thou of great virtue, that this established practice has been in place among human beings since that time, but not among other classes of beings.' ॥ 1-113-16 ॥
english translation
mAnuSeSu mahAbhAge na tava evAnyeSu jantuSu tadA parabhRti maryAdA sathiteyama iti naH zarutama ॥ 1-113-16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवयुच्चरन्त्याः पतिं नार्या अद्य परभृति पातकम भरूण हत्या कृतं पापं भविष्यत्य असुखावहम ॥ १-११३-१७ ॥
'Therefore, since the establishment of the current custom, it is considered sinful for women to not remain faithful to their husbands. Women who exceed the boundaries set by the sage incur guilt akin to that of killing an embryo.' ॥ 1-113-17 ॥
english translation
vayuccarantyAH patiM nAryA adya parabhRti pAtakama bharUNa hatyA kRtaM pApaM bhaviSyatya asukhAvahama ॥ 1-113-17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभार्यां तथा वयुच्चरतः कौमारीं बरह्मचारिणीम पतिव्रताम एतद एव भविता पातकं भुवि ॥ १-११३-१८ ॥
'Likewise, men who violate a chaste and affectionate wife, who has observed the vow of purity since her maidenhood, also incur the same sin.' ॥ 1-113-18 ॥

bhAryAM tathA vayuccarataH kaumArIM barahmacAriNIma pativratAma etada eva bhavitA pAtakaM bhuvi ॥ 1-113-18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपत्या नियुक्ता या चैव पत्न्य अपत्यार्थम एव च न करिष्यति तस्याश च भविष्यत्य एतद एव हि ॥ १-११३-१९ ॥
'Similarly, a woman who, despite her husband's instruction to bear children, refuses to comply, also becomes equally sinful.' ॥ 1-113-19 ॥

patyA niyuktA yA caiva patnya apatyArthama eva ca na kariSyati tasyAza ca bhaviSyatya etada eva hi ॥ 1-113-19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptइति तेन पुरा भीरु मर्यादा सथापिता बलात उद्दालकस्य पुत्रेण धर्म्या वै शवेतकेतुना ॥ १-११३-२० ॥
'Thus, O timid one, Swetaketu, the son of Uddalaka, established the current practice in defiance of ancient traditions.' ॥ 1-113-20 ॥
