मानुषेषु महाभागे न तव एवान्येषु जन्तुषु तदा परभृति मर्यादा सथितेयम इति नः शरुतम ।। १-११३-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'It has been heard by us, O thou of great virtue, that this established practice has been in place among human beings since that time, but not among other classes of beings.' ।। 1-113-16 ।।

english translation

mAnuSeSu mahAbhAge na tava evAnyeSu jantuSu tadA parabhRti maryAdA sathiteyama iti naH zarutama || 1-113-16 ||

वयुच्चरन्त्याः पतिं नार्या अद्य परभृति पातकम भरूण हत्या कृतं पापं भविष्यत्य असुखावहम ।। १-११३-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'Therefore, since the establishment of the current custom, it is considered sinful for women to not remain faithful to their husbands. Women who exceed the boundaries set by the sage incur guilt akin to that of killing an embryo.' ।। 1-113-17 ।।

english translation

vayuccarantyAH patiM nAryA adya parabhRti pAtakama bharUNa hatyA kRtaM pApaM bhaviSyatya asukhAvahama || 1-113-17 ||

'Likewise, men who violate a chaste and affectionate wife, who has observed the vow of purity since her maidenhood, also incur the same sin.' ।। 1-113-18 ।।

'Similarly, a woman who, despite her husband's instruction to bear children, refuses to comply, also becomes equally sinful.' ।। 1-113-19 ।।
