शवेतकेतॊः किल पुरा समक्षं मातरं पितुः जग्राह बराह्मणः पाणौ गच्छाव इति चाब्रवीत ॥ १-११३-११ ॥

'Listen to the reason. Once, in the presence of Shvetaketu's father, a Brahmin came and, taking Shvetaketu's mother by the hand, said to her, "Let us go."' ॥ 1-113-11 ॥

zavetaketòH kila purA samakSaM mAtaraM pituH jagrAha barAhmaNaH pANau gacchAva iti cAbravIta ॥ 1-113-11 ॥

ऋषिपुत्रस ततः कॊपं चकारामर्षितस तदा मातरं तां तथा दृष्ट्वा नीयमानां बलाद इव ॥ १-११३-१२ ॥

'Seeing his mother seized by the hand and seemingly taken away by force, the son was greatly stirred by anger.' ॥ 1-113-12 ॥

करुद्धं तं तु पिता दृष्ट्वा शवेतकेतुम उवाच ह मा तात कॊपं कार्षीस तवम एष धर्मः सनातनः ॥ १-११३-१३ ॥

'Observing his son's indignation, Uddalaka addressed him, saying, "Do not be angry, O son! This is the tradition sanctioned by antiquity."' ॥ 1-113-13 ॥

karuddhaM taM tu pitA dRSTvA zavetaketuma uvAca ha mA tAta kòpaM kArSIsa tavama eSa dharmaH sanAtanaH ॥ 1-113-13 ॥

अनावृता हि सर्वेषां वर्णानाम अङ्गना भुवि यथा गावः सथितास तात सवे सवे वर्णे तथा परजाः ॥ १-११३-१४ ॥

'The women of all orders in this world are free, O son; just as cows roam freely according to their breeds, so do men behave towards women in their respective orders.' ॥ 1-113-14 ॥

anAvRtA hi sarveSAM varNAnAma aGganA bhuvi yathA gAvaH sathitAsa tAta save save varNe tathA parajAH ॥ 1-113-14 ॥

ऋषिपुत्रॊ ऽथ तं धर्मं शवेतकेतुर न चक्षमे चकार चैव मर्यादाम इमां सत्रीपुंसयॊर भुवि ॥ १-११३-१५ ॥

'The son of the sage, Shvetaketu, however, did not approve of this practice and established the present norms concerning men and women in the world.' ॥ 1-113-15 ॥
