युधिष्ठिरॊ राजपुत्रॊ जयेष्ठॊ नः कुलवर्धनः पराप्तः सवगुणतॊ राज्यं न तस्मिन वाच्यम अस्ति नः ॥ १-१०७-२६ ॥
'Dhritarashtra said, "Yudhishthira, the eldest among those princes, is the one who continues our lineage. Through his very birthright, he has obtained the kingdom."' ॥ 1-107-26 ॥
english translation
अयं तव अनन्तरस तस्माद अपि राजा भविष्यति एतद धि बरूत मे सत्यं यद अत्र भविता धरुवम ॥ १-१०७-२७ ॥
'This son of yours, Yudhishthira, will succeed you as king. It is certain and undeniable that what is ordained here will surely come to pass.' ॥ 1-107-27 ॥
english translation
वाक्यस्यैतस्य निधने दिक्षु सर्वासु भारत करव्यादाः पराणदन घॊराः शिवाश चाशिव शंसिनः ॥ १-१०७-२८ ॥
'As soon as these words were spoken, O Bharata, jackals and other carnivorous animals began to howl ominously.' ॥ 1-107-28 ॥
english translation
लक्षयित्वा निमित्तानि तानि घॊराणि सर्वशः ते ऽबरुवन बराह्मणा राजन विदुरश च महामतिः ॥ १-१०७-२९ ॥
'And marking those frightful omens all around, the assembled Brahmanas and the wise Vidura replied.' ॥ 1-107-29 ॥
english translation
वयक्तं कुलान्त करणॊ भवितैष सुतस तव तस्य शान्तिः परित्यागे पुष्ट्या तव अपनयॊ महान ॥ १-१०७-३० ॥
'O king, O foremost among men, given the ominous portents accompanying the birth of your eldest son, it is clear he will be the cause of your dynasty's destruction. The well-being of many hinges on his renunciation.' ॥ 1-107-30 ॥
