[व] ततः सत्यवती काले वधूं सनाताम ऋतौ तदा संवेशयन्ती शयने शनकैर वाक्यम अब्रवीत ॥ १-१००-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'After the menstrual period of the princess of Kosala had ended, Satyavati, having purified her daughter-in-law with a bath, escorted her into the sleeping quarters.' ॥ 1-100-1 ॥
english translation
[va] tataH satyavatI kAle vadhUM sanAtAma Rtau tadA saMvezayantI zayane zanakaira vAkyama abravIta ॥ 1-100-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकौसल्ये देवरस ते ऽसति सॊ ऽदय तवानुप्रवेक्ष्यति अप्रमत्ता परतीक्षैनं निशीथे आगमिष्यति ॥ १-१००-२ ॥
'There, having seated her on a sumptuous bed, Satyavati said, "O Princess of Kosala, your husband has an elder brother who will today come to you, destined to be born as your child."' ॥ 1-100-2 ॥

kausalye devarasa te 'sati sò 'daya tavAnupravekSyati apramattA paratIkSainaM nizIthe AgamiSyati ॥ 1-100-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशवश्र्वास तद वचनश्रुत्वा शयाना शयने शुभे साचिन्तयत तदा भीष्मम अन्यांश च कुरुपुंगवान ॥ १-१००-३ ॥
'Upon hearing her mother-in-law's instructions, the agreeable princess, as she reclined on her bed, reflected upon Bhishma and the other venerable figures of the Kuru dynasty, anticipating the night with wakeful expectation.' ॥ 1-100-3 ॥

zavazrvAsa tada vacanazrutvA zayAnA zayane zubhe sAcintayata tadA bhISmama anyAMza ca kurupuMgavAna ॥ 1-100-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ ऽमबिकायां परथमं नियुक्तः सत्यवाग ऋषिः दीप्यमानेषु दीपेषु शयनं परविवेश ह ॥ १-१००-४ ॥
'Then the Rishi of truthful speech, who had given his promise in respect of Amvika (the eldest of the princesses) in the first instance, entered her chamber while the lamp was burning.' ॥ 1-100-4 ॥

tatò 'mabikAyAM parathamaM niyuktaH satyavAga RSiH dIpyamAneSu dIpeSu zayanaM paraviveza ha ॥ 1-100-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य कृष्णस्य कपिला जटा दीप्ते च लॊचने बभ्रूणि चैव शमश्रूणि दृष्ट्वा देवी नयमीलयत ॥ १-१००-५ ॥
'The princess, seeing his dark visage, his matted locks of copper hue, blazing eyes, his grim beard, closed her eyes in fear.' ॥ 1-100-5 ॥
