असच च सच चैव च यद विश्वं सद असतः परम परावराणां सरष्टारं पुराणं परम अव्ययम ॥ १-१-२१॥
'The world we see and the unseen reality, both the temporary and the eternal, all come from an unchanging, everlasting source. This source is beyond what we can perceive, and it's described as the ultimate and timeless essence.' ॥ 1-1-21 ॥

मङ्गल्यं मङ्गलं विष्णुं वरेण्यम अनघं शुचिम नमस्कृत्य हृषीकेशं चराचरगुरुं हरिम ॥ १-१-२२॥
'The epitome of benevolence and the very essence of goodness, deserving utmost reverence—pure and untarnished. This is Hari, the sovereign of capabilities, the guiding force for all that moves and remains still.' ॥ 1-1-22 ॥

महर्षेः पूजितस्येह सर्वलॊके महात्मनः परवक्ष्यामि मतं कृत्स्नं वयासस्यामित तेजसः ॥ १-१-२३॥
'I will now narrate the sacred thoughts of the illustrious sage Vyasa, of marvelous deeds and worshipped here by all.' ॥ 1-1-23 ॥

आचख्युः कवयः के चित संप्रत्याचक्षते परे आख्यास्यन्ति तथैवान्ये इतिहासम इमं भुवि ॥ १-१-२४॥
'Some bards have already published this history, some are now teaching it, and others, in like manner, will hereafter promulgate it upon the earth.' ॥ 1-1-24 ॥

इदं तु तरिषु लॊकेषु महज जञानं परतिष्ठितम विस्तरैश च समासैश च धार्यते यद दविजातिभिः ॥ १-१-२५॥
'It is a great source of knowledge, established throughout the three regions of the world.' ॥ 1-1-25 ॥
