येषां दिव्यानि कर्माणि विक्रमस तयाग एव च माहात्म्यम अपि चास्तिक्यं सत्यता शौचम आर्जवम ॥ १-१-१८१ ॥

'Their heavenly deeds, valour, and generosity, their magnanimity, faith, truth, purity,simplicity and mercy, are published to the world in the records of former times by sacred bards of great learning.'॥ 1-1-181 ॥

english translation

yeSAM divyAni karmANi vikramasa tayAga eva ca mAhAtmyama api cAstikyaM satyatA zaucama Arjavama ॥ 1-1-181 ॥

विद्वद्भिः कथ्यते लॊके पुराणैः कवि सत्तमैः सर्वर्द्धि गुणसंपन्नास ते चापि निधनं गताः ॥ १-१-१८२ ॥

'Spoken of by the wise in this world, celebrated in ancient scriptures, and endowed with every virtue, these illustrious ones have also met their end.'॥ 1-1-182 ॥

vidvadbhiH kathyate lòke purANaiH kavi sattamaiH sarvarddhi guNasaMpannAsa te cApi nidhanaM gatAH ॥ 1-1-182 ॥

तव पुत्रा दुरात्मानः परतप्ताश चैव मन्युना लुब्धा दुर्वृत्त भूयिष्ठा न ताञ शॊचितुम अर्हसि ॥ १-१-१८३ ॥

'Thy sons were malevolent, inflamed with passion, avaricious, and of very evil-disposition, you should not grieve for them.'॥ 1-1-183 ॥

tava putrA durAtmAnaH parataptAza caiva manyunA lubdhA durvRtta bhUyiSThA na tAJa zòcituma arhasi ॥ 1-1-183 ॥

शरुतवान असि मेधावी बुद्धिमान पराज्ञसंमतः येषां शास्त्रानुगा बुद्धिर न ते मुह्यन्ति भारत ॥ १-१-१८४ ॥

'You are learned, intelligent, and praised by the wise. Your intellect is keen, and those who follow the scriptures do not confuse you, O Bharata.'॥ 1-1-184 ॥

zarutavAna asi medhAvI buddhimAna parAjJasaMmataH yeSAM zAstrAnugA buddhira na te muhyanti bhArata ॥ 1-1-184 ॥

निग्रहानुग्रहौ चापि विदितौ ते नराधिप नात्यन्तम एवानुवृत्तिः शरूयते पुत्र रक्षणे ॥ १-१-१८५ ॥

'O noble leader, you possess a profound understanding of both firm discipline and compassionate benevolence. In the protection of your sons, maintaining a delicate balance between strictness and kindness is not only recommended but also imperative.'॥ 1-1-185 ॥
