स हि माम उक्तवांस तत्र समरेः कृत्येषु माम इति तं समरिष्ये महाबाहॊ यदि भीष्म तवम इच्छसि ॥ १-९९-१६ ॥
'When he departed, he said to me, 'Mother, remember me whenever you face troubles.' Now, if you wish it, O mighty-armed Bhishma, I am ready to summon him.' ॥ 1-99-16 ॥
english translation
तव हय अनुमते भीष्म नियतं स महातपाः विचित्रवीर्यक्षेत्रेषु पुत्रान उत्पादयिष्यति ॥ १-९९-१७ ॥
'If thou art willing, O Bhishma, I am sure that great ascetic will beget children upon Vichitravirya's field.' ॥ 1-99-17 ॥
english translation
महर्षेः कीर्तने तस्य भीष्मः पराञ्जलिर अब्रवीत धर्मम अर्थं च कामं च तरीन एतान यॊ ऽनुपश्यति ॥ १-९९-१८ ॥
'Continuing, Vaisampayana said, "Upon hearing of the great sage, Bhishma, with folded hands, remarked, 'Indeed, the wise discern the path of righteousness, prosperity, and joy, contemplating patiently so that their virtuous deeds yield more virtue, their gains lead to greater profit, and their pleasures result in enduring happiness.'"' ॥ 1-99-18 ॥

अर्थम अर्थानुबन्धं च धर्मं धर्मानुबन्धनम कामं कामानुबन्धं च विपरीतान पृथक पृथक यॊ विचिन्त्य धिया सम्यग वयवस्यति स बुद्धिमान ॥ १-९९-१९ ॥
'He who contemplates with discernment the interrelationship between wealth and its accumulation, righteousness and its observance, desire and its fulfillment, distinguishing each according to its nature, is truly wise.' ॥ 1-99-19 ॥
english translation
तद इदं धर्मयुक्तं च हितं चैव कुलस्य नः उक्तं भवत्या यच छरेयः परमं रॊचते मम ॥ १-९९-२० ॥
'That which you have spoken, which is imbued with righteousness and beneficial for our family, delights me exceedingly and seems supremely auspicious.' ॥ 1-99-20 ॥
