[भस] जामदग्न्येन रामेण पितुर वधम अमृष्यता करुद्धेन च महाभागे हैहयाधिपतिर हतः शतानि दश बाहूनां निकृत्तान्य अर्जुनस्य वै ॥ १-९८-१ ॥
'Bhishma narrated, 'Long ago, Parashurama, the son of Jamadagni, driven by fury over his father's demise, vanquished the Haihaya king with his formidable axe. By severing the thousand arms of Arjuna, the monarch of Haihayas, Parashurama accomplished a feat unparalleled in the annals of history.' ॥ 1-98-1 ॥
english translation
[bhasa] jAmadagnyena rAmeNa pitura vadhama amRSyatA karuddhena ca mahAbhAge haihayAdhipatira hataH zatAni daza bAhUnAM nikRttAnya arjunasya vai ॥ 1-98-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपुनश च धनुर आदाय महास्त्राणि परमुञ्चता निर्दग्धं कषत्रम असकृद रथेन जयता महीम ॥ १-९८-२ ॥
'Not content with this, he set out on his chariot for the conquest of the world, and taking up his bow he cast around his mighty weapons to exterminate the Kshatriyas.' ॥ 1-98-2 ॥
english translation
punaza ca dhanura AdAya mahAstrANi paramuJcatA nirdagdhaM kaSatrama asakRda rathena jayatA mahIma ॥ 1-98-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवम उच्चावचैर अस्त्रैर भार्गवेण महात्मना तरिः सप्तकृत्वः पृथिवी कृता निःक्षत्रिया पुरा ॥ १-९८-३ ॥
'And the illustrious scion of Bhrigu's race, by means of his swift arrows annihilated the Kshatriya tribe one and twenty times.' ॥ 1-98-3 ॥
english translation
evama uccAvacaira astraira bhArgaveNa mahAtmanA tariH saptakRtvaH pRthivI kRtA niHkSatriyA purA ॥ 1-98-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततः संभूय सर्वाभिः कषत्रियाभिः समन्ततः उत्पादितान्य अपत्यानि बराह्मणैर नियतात्मभिः ॥ १-९८-४ ॥
'And when the earth was thus deprived of Kshatriyas by the great Rishi, the Kshatriya ladies all over the land had offspring raised by Brahmanas skilled in the Vedas.' ॥ 1-98-4 ॥
english translation
tataH saMbhUya sarvAbhiH kaSatriyAbhiH samantataH utpAditAnya apatyAni barAhmaNaira niyatAtmabhiH ॥ 1-98-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपाणिग्राहस्य तनय इति वेदेषु निश्चितम धर्मं मनसि संस्थाप्य बराह्मणांस ताः समभ्ययुः लॊके ऽपय आचरितॊ दृष्टः कषत्रियाणां पुनर भवः ॥ १-९८-५ ॥
'It has been said in the Vedas that the sons so raised belongeth to him that had married the mother. And the Kshatriya ladies went in unto the Brahamanas not lustfully but from motives of virtue. Indeed, it was thus that the Kshatriya race was revived.' ॥ 1-98-5 ॥
english translation
pANigrAhasya tanaya iti vedeSu nizcitama dharmaM manasi saMsthApya barAhmaNAMsa tAH samabhyayuH lòke 'paya Acaritò dRSTaH kaSatriyANAM punara bhavaH ॥ 1-98-5 ॥
