स चाश्वि रूपसदृशॊ देव सत्त्वपराक्रमः सर्वासाम एव नारीणां चित्तप्रमथनॊ ऽभवत ॥ १-९६-५६ ॥
'And Vichitravirya also, endued with the prowess of the celestials and the beauty of the twin Aswins, could steal the heart of any beautiful woman.' ॥ 1-96-56 ॥
english translation
sa cAzvi rUpasadRzò deva sattvaparAkramaH sarvAsAma eva nArINAM cittapramathanò 'bhavata ॥ 1-96-56 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptताभ्यां सह समाः सप्त विहरन पृथिवीपतिः विचित्रवीर्यस तरुणॊ यक्ष्माणं समपद्यत ॥ १-९६-५७ ॥
'The prince spent seven uninterrupted years in the company of his wives. However, while still in the prime of his youth, he was afflicted with tuberculosis.' ॥ 1-96-57 ॥

tAbhyAM saha samAH sapta viharana pRthivIpatiH vicitravIryasa taruNò yakSmANaM samapadyata ॥ 1-96-57 ॥

'Friends and relatives in consultation with one another tried to effect a cure. But despite all efforts, the Kuru prince died, setting like the evening sun.' ॥ 1-96-58 ॥

suhRdAM yatamAnAnAma AptaiH saha cikitsakaiH jagAmAstama ivAdityaH kauravyò yamasAdanama ॥ 1-96-58 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरेतकार्याणि सर्वाणि तस्य सम्यग अकारयत राज्ञॊ विचित्रवीर्यस्य सत्यवत्या मते सथितः ऋत्विग्भिः सहितॊ भीष्मः सर्वैश च कुरुपुंगवैः ॥ १-९६-५९ ॥
'Then, the virtuous Bhishma, engulfed in sorrow and worry, consulted with Satyavati and ensured that learned priests and members of the Kuru dynasty meticulously conducted the funeral ceremonies of the departed.' ॥ 1-96-59 ॥
