ततः स पितुर अर्थाय ताम उवाच यशस्विनीम अधिरॊह रथं मातर गच्छावः सवगृहान इति ॥ १-९४-९१ ॥
'To fulfill his father's wishes, Bhishma spoke to the illustrious maiden, saying, "O mother, please ascend this chariot, and let us return to our home."' ॥ 1-94-91 ॥
english translation
tataH sa pitura arthAya tAma uvAca yazasvinIma adhiròha rathaM mAtara gacchAvaH savagRhAna iti ॥ 1-94-91 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptएवम उक्त्वा तु भीष्मस तां रथम आरॊप्य भामिनीम आगम्य हास्तिनपुरं शंतनॊः संन्यवेदयत ॥ १-९४-९२ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, 'Having said this, Bhishma helped the beautiful maiden into his chariot. On arriving with her at Hastinapura, he told Santanu everything as it had happened.' ॥ 1-94-92 ॥
english translation
evama uktvA tu bhISmasa tAM rathama Aròpya bhAminIma Agamya hAstinapuraM zaMtanòH saMnyavedayata ॥ 1-94-92 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतस्य तद दुष्करं कर्म परशशंसुर नराधिपाः समेताश च पृथक चैव भीष्मॊ ऽयम इति चाब्रुवन ॥ १-९४-९३ ॥
'The kings, both collectively and individually, praised that difficult deed of his, saying, "This is Bhishma indeed!"' ॥ 1-94-93 ॥

tasya tada duSkaraM karma parazazaMsura narAdhipAH sametAza ca pRthaka caiva bhISmò 'yama iti cAbruvana ॥ 1-94-93 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद दृष्ट्वा दुष्करं कर्मकृतं भीष्मेण शंतनुः सवच्छन्दमरणं तस्मै ददौ तुष्टः पिता सवयम ॥ १-९४-९४ ॥
'Santanu, greatly pleased upon hearing of his son's exceptional accomplishments, graciously granted the noble prince the remarkable boon of 'ichchhamrityu', or death at will, proclaiming, "Death shall not claim thee until thou thyself yearn for it. Indeed, O sinless one, death shall only come to thee with thy permission."' ॥ 1-94-94 ॥

tada dRSTvA duSkaraM karmakRtaM bhISmeNa zaMtanuH savacchandamaraNaM tasmai dadau tuSTaH pitA savayama ॥ 1-94-94 ॥
