तस्याश्रमपदं पुण्यं मृगपक्षिगणान्वितम मेरॊः पार्श्वे नगेन्द्रस्य सर्वर्तुकुसुमावृतम ॥ १-९३-६ ॥

'The holy hermitage of his, filled with herds of deer and flocks of birds, situated on the flank of the great mountain Meru, was enveloped in flowers of every season.' ॥ 1-93-6 ॥

english translation

tasyAzramapadaM puNyaM mRgapakSigaNAnvitama meròH pArzve nagendrasya sarvartukusumAvRtama ॥ 1-93-6 ॥

स वारुणिस तपस तेपे तस्मिन भरतसत्तम वने पुण्यकृतां शरेष्ठः सवादुमूलफलॊदके ॥ १-९३-७ ॥

'In that forest, O best of the Bharatas, the illustrious son of Varuna performed his austerities, a forest abundant with sweet fruits, roots, and water, the finest of places sanctified by the virtuous.' ॥ 1-93-7 ॥

english translation

sa vAruNisa tapasa tepe tasmina bharatasattama vane puNyakRtAM zareSThaH savAdumUlaphalòdake ॥ 1-93-7 ॥

दक्षस्य दुहिता या तु सुरभीत्य अतिगर्विता गां परजाता तु सा देवी कश्यपाद भरतर्षभ ॥ १-९३-८ ॥

'Daksha had a daughter known by the name of Surabhi, who, O bull of Bharata's race, for benefiting the world, brought forth, by her connection with Kasyapa, a daughter (Nandini) in the form of a cow.' ॥ 1-93-8 ॥

dakSasya duhitA yA tu surabhItya atigarvitA gAM parajAtA tu sA devI kazyapAda bharatarSabha ॥ 1-93-8 ॥

अनुग्रहार्थं जगतः सर्वकामदुघां वराम तां लेभे गां तु धर्मात्मा हॊमधेनुं स वारुणिः ॥ १-९३-९ ॥

'That foremost of all kine, Nandini, was the cow of plenty (capable of granting every desire).' ॥ 1-93-9 ॥

anugrahArthaM jagataH sarvakAmadughAM varAma tAM lebhe gAM tu dharmAtmA hòmadhenuM sa vAruNiH ॥ 1-93-9 ॥

सा तस्मिंस तापसारण्ये वसन्ती मुनिसेविते चचार रम्ये धर्म्ये च गौर अपेतभया तदा ॥ १-९३-१० ॥

'And Nandini, dwelling in that hermitage which was adored by Munis, roamed about fearlessly in those sacred and delightful woods.' ॥ 1-93-10 ॥

sA tasmiMsa tApasAraNye vasantI munisevite cacAra ramye dharmye ca gaura apetabhayA tadA ॥ 1-93-10 ॥
