तम उत्सङ्गेन परतिजग्राह पृथा नियॊगात पुरुषॊत्तमस्य वासुदेवस्य षाण्मासिकं गर्भम अहम एनं जीवयिष्यामीति ॥ १-९०-९१ ॥
'Kunti, upon the order of the supreme person, Vasudeva, lovingly took the six-month premature fetus into her care, declaring, "I will bring this child to life."' ॥ 1-90-91 ॥
english translation
संजीवयित्वा चैनम उवाच परिक्षीणे कुले जातॊ भवत्व अयं परिक्षिन नामेति ॥ १-९०-९२ ॥
'And though born before time, having been burnt by the fire of (Aswatthaman's weapon) and, therefore, deprived of strength and energy he was revived by Vasudeva and endued with strength, energy, and prowess. And after reviving him, Vasudeva said, 'Because this child hath been born in an extinct race, therefore, he shall be called Parikshit' ॥ 1-90-92 ॥

परिक्षित तु खलु माद्रवतीं नामॊपयेमे तस्याम अस्य जनमेजयः ॥ १-९०-९३ ॥
'And Parikshit, O King Janamejaya, took Madravati as his wife, and you were born to them, marking your lineage's continuation.' ॥ 1-90-93 ॥

जनमेजयात तु वपुष्टमायां दवौ पुत्रौ शतानीकः शङ्कुश च ॥ १-९०-९४ ॥
'You, O king, have fathered two sons with your queen Vapushtama, named Satanika and Sankukarna.' ॥ 1-90-94 ॥

शतानीकस तु खलु वैदेहीम उपयेमे तस्याम अस्य जज्ञे पुत्रॊ ऽशवमेध दत्तः ॥ १-९०-९५ ॥
'Satanika also fathered a son named Ashvamedhadatta with the princess of Videha.' ॥ 1-90-95 ॥
