भीष्मः खलु पितुः परियचिकीर्षया सत्यवतीम उदवहन मातरम याम आहुर गन्धकालीति ॥ १-९०-५१ ॥
'And Bhishma, moved by the desire to do good to his father, got him married to Satyavati who was also called Gandhakali.' ॥ 1-90-51 ॥
english translation
तस्यां कानीनॊ गर्भः पराशराद दवैपायनः तस्याम एव शंतनॊर दवौ पुत्रॊ बभूवतुः चित्राङ्गदॊ विचित्रवीर्यश च ॥ १-९०-५२ ॥
'And in her maidenhood, she had a son by Parasara, named Dwaipayana. And upon her Santanu begat two other sons named Chitrangada and Vichitravirya.' ॥ 1-90-52 ॥

तयॊर अप्राप्तयौवन एव चित्राङ्गदॊ गन्धर्वेण हतः विचित्रवीर्यस तु राजा समभवत ॥ १-९०-५३ ॥
'Chitrangada, due to his untimely death, was slain by a Gandharva, while Vichitravirya ascended the throne as the king.' ॥ 1-90-53 ॥

विचित्रवीर्यः खलु कौसल्यात्मजे ऽमबिकाम्बालिके काशिराज दुहितराव उपयेमे ॥ १-९०-५४ ॥
'Vichitravirya married Ambika and Ambalika, the daughters of the King of Kashi, who were born of the lineage of Kosala.' ॥ 1-90-54 ॥

विचित्रवीर्यस तव अनपत्य एव विदेहत्वं पराप्तः ॥ १-९०-५५ ॥
