[व] सवर्गतः स तु राजेन्द्रॊ निवसन देव सद्मनि पूजितस तरिदशैः साध्यैर मरुद्भिर वसुभिस तथा ॥ १-८२-१ ॥

'Vaisampayana said, 'While that king of kings dwelt in heaven--the home of the celestials, he was reverenced by the gods, the Sadhyas, the Maruts, and the Vasus.' ॥ 1-82-1 ॥

english translation

देवलॊकाद बरह्मलॊकं संचरन पुण्यकृद वशी अवसत पृथिवीपालॊ दीर्घकालम इति शरुतिः ॥ १-८२-२ ॥

'Dedicated to sacred acts, with his mind fully restrained, the king would occasionally journey from the celestial realms to the abode of Brahma. It is said that he spent a considerable duration in heaven.' ॥ 1-82-2 ॥

english translation

स कदा चिन नृपश्रेष्ठॊ ययातिः शक्रम आगमत कथान्ते तत्र शक्रेण पृष्टः स पृथिवीपतिः ॥ १-८२-३ ॥

'One day, Yayati, the foremost among kings, visited Indra. During their conversation, the lord of Earth was questioned by Indra as follows:' ॥ 1-82-3 ॥

english translation

[षक्र] यदा स पूरुस तव रूपेण राजञ; जरां गृहीत्वा परचचार भूमौ तदा राज्यं संप्रदायैव तस्मै; तवया किम उक्तः कथयेह सत्यम ॥ १-८२-४ ॥

'What were your words, O King, when Puru accepted your old age on Earth, and in return, you bestowed upon him your kingdom?' ॥ 1-82-4 ॥

english translation

[य] गङ्गायमुनयॊर मध्ये कृत्स्नॊ ऽयं विषयस तव मध्ये पृथिव्यास तवं राजा भरातरॊ ऽनत्याधिपास तव ॥ १-८२-५ ॥

'Yayati replied, "I informed him that the entire land between the rivers Ganga and Yamuna belonged to him. This signifies the central territory of the Earth, while the surrounding regions are to be ruled by your brothers."' ॥ 1-82-5 ॥
