ततः काले तु कस्मिंश चिद देव यानी शुचिस्मिता ययाति सहिता राजन निर्जगाम महावनम ॥ १-७८-११ ॥
'And, O king, there came a day when Devayani, graced with sweet smiles, ventured into a secluded part of the forest with Yayati, within the vast expanses of the royal park.' ॥ 1-78-11 ॥
english translation
ददर्श च तदा तत्र कुमारान देवरूपिणः करीडमानान सुविश्रब्धान विस्मिता चेदम अब्रवीत ॥ १-७८-१२ ॥
'And there, she beheld three children, radiant as celestial beings, playing with uninhibited joy.' ॥ 1-78-12 ॥
english translation
कस्यैते दारका राजन देवपुत्रॊपमाः शुभाः वर्चसा रूपतश चैव सदृशा मे मतास तव ॥ १-७८-१३ ॥
'In astonishment, Devayani inquired, "O king, whose children are they, so handsome and resembling the celestial offspring? I would assume they are as splendid and beautiful as yourself."' ॥ 1-78-13 ॥

एवं पृष्ट्वा तु राजानं कुमारान पर्यपृच्छत किंनामधेय गॊत्रॊ वः पुत्रका बराह्मणः पिता विब्रूत मे यथातथ्यं शरॊतुम इच्छामि तं हय अहम ॥ १-७८-१४ ॥
'Vaisampayana narrated, "Without waiting for the king's response, Devayani directly addressed the children, 'Tell me, young ones, of your lineage. Who is your father? I seek a truthful answer. I wish to understand everything."' ॥ 1-78-14 ॥

ते ऽदर्शयन परदेशिन्या तम एव नृपसत्तमम शर्मिष्ठां मातरं चैव तस्याचख्युश च दारकाः ॥ १-७८-१५ ॥
'The children then pointed to the king with their forefingers and declared Sarmishtha as their mother.' ॥ 1-78-15 ॥
