तपसा दीप्तवीर्यॊ ऽयं सथानान मा चयावयेद इति भीतः पुरंदरस तस्मान मेनकाम इदम अब्रवीत ॥ १-६५-२१ ॥

'Alarmed by the thought that the potent ascetic's fervent penance might unseat him from his celestial throne, Indra summoned Menaka and said, 'You, Menaka, are the foremost among celestial Apsaras.'' ॥ 1-65-21 ॥

tapasA dIptavIryò 'yaM sathAnAna mA cayAvayeda iti bhItaH puraMdarasa tasmAna menakAma idama abravIta ॥ 1-65-21 ॥

गुणैर दिव्यैर अप्सरसां मेनके तवं विशिष्यसे शरेयॊ मे कुरु कल्याणि यत तवां वक्ष्यामि तच छृणु ॥ १-६५-२२ ॥

'Menaka, with your celestial qualities, you surpass all Apsaras. Choose what is best for me, O auspicious one, as I share with you what I am about to say.' ॥ 1-65-22 ॥

guNaira divyaira apsarasAM menake tavaM viziSyase zareyò me kuru kalyANi yata tavAM vakSyAmi taca chRNu ॥ 1-65-22 ॥

असाव आदित्यसंकाशॊ विश्वामित्रॊ महातपाः तप्यमानस तपॊ घॊरं मम कम्पयते मनः ॥ १-६५-२३ ॥

'This great ascetic Viswamitra like unto the Sun in splendor, is engaged in the most severe of penances. My heart is trembling with fear.' ॥ 1-65-23 ॥

asAva AdityasaMkAzò vizvAmitrò mahAtapAH tapyamAnasa tapò ghòraM mama kampayate manaH ॥ 1-65-23 ॥

मेनके तव भारॊ ऽयं विश्वामित्रः सुमध्यमे संशितात्मा सुदुर्धर्ष उग्रे तपसि वर्तते ॥ १-६५-२४ ॥

'Menaka, this burden of mine is Vishwamitra, who is performing formidable penance in the hermitage, with an unwavering and determined soul.' ॥ 1-65-24 ॥

menake tava bhArò 'yaM vizvAmitraH sumadhyame saMzitAtmA sudurdharSa ugre tapasi vartate ॥ 1-65-24 ॥

स मां न चयावयेत सथानात तं वै गत्वा परलॊभय चर तस्य तपॊविघ्नं कुरु मे परियम उत्तमम ॥ १-६५-२५ ॥

'He would not desist from his place, and if you approach him with allurements, he may succumb to desire. Create obstacles in his penance for me, the most excellent way.' ॥ 1-65-25 ॥

sa mAM na cayAvayeta sathAnAta taM vai gatvA paralòbhaya cara tasya tapòvighnaM kuru me pariyama uttamama ॥ 1-65-25 ॥
