[दु] ऊर्ध्वरेता महाभागॊ भगवाँल लॊकपूजितः चलेद धि वृत्ताद धर्मॊ ऽपि न चलेत संशितव्रतः ॥ १-६५-१६ ॥
'Dushmanta, upon hearing her words, responded, 'The revered and greatly fortunate sage Kanva is known for his asceticism, having mastered his energies. While even the path of Dharma might deviate, a sage of unwavering vows remains steadfast and unshaken.'" ॥ 1-65-16 ॥
english translation
कथं तवं तस्य दुहिता संभूता वरवर्णिनी संशयॊ मे महान अत्र तं मे छेत्तुम इहार्हसि ॥ १-६५-१७ ॥
'Therefore, O maiden with the fairest complexion, how have you come to be recognized as his daughter? You ought to clear this significant doubt of mine.' ॥ 1-65-17 ॥
english translation
[षक] यथायम आगमॊ मह्यं यथा चेदम अभूत पुरा शृणु राजन यथातत्त्वं यथास्मि दुहिता मुनेः ॥ १-६५-१८ ॥
'Sakuntala then replied, 'O king, listen as I recount the events of my past and narrate how I came to be the daughter of the sage.'" ॥ 1-65-18 ॥

ऋषिः कश चिद इहागम्य मम जन्माभ्यचॊदयत तस्मै परॊवाच भगवान यथा तच छृणु पार्थिव ॥ १-६५-१९ ॥
'A certain sage, upon arriving here, inquired about my birth. To him, the venerable sage (Kanva) responded. Listen, O king, to what was said.' ॥ 1-65-19 ॥

तप्यमानः किल पुरा विश्वामित्रॊ महत तपः सुभृशं तापयाम आस शक्रं सुरगणेश्वरम ॥ १-६५-२० ॥
'My father Kanwa, responding to the sage's questions, recounted, 'In ancient times, Viswamitra, through his severe penances, caused alarm to Indra, the sovereign of the Gods.' ॥ 1-65-20 ॥
