शुष्कां चापि नदीं गत्वा जलनैराश्य कर्शिताः वयायामक्लान्तहृदयाः पतन्ति सम विचेतसः ॥ १-६३-२१ ॥
'And fatigued with running, they began to fall down on all sides, unable to slake their thirst, having reached river-beds that were perfectly dry.' ॥ 1-63-21 ॥
english translation
zuSkAM cApi nadIM gatvA jalanairAzya karzitAH vayAyAmaklAntahRdayAH patanti sama vicetasaH ॥ 1-63-21 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकषुत्पिपासापरीताश च शरान्ताश च पतिता भुवि के चित तत्र नरव्याघ्रैर अभक्ष्यन्त बुभुक्षितैः ॥ १-६३-२२ ॥
'Tormented by hunger and thirst, and exhausted from the journey, some among them fell to the ground. There, they were devoured by other famished men, resembling tigers in their desperation.' ॥ 1-63-22 ॥

kaSutpipAsAparItAza ca zarAntAza ca patitA bhuvi ke cita tatra naravyAghraira abhakSyanta bubhukSitaiH ॥ 1-63-22 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptके चिद अग्निम अथॊत्पाद्य समिध्य च वनेचराः भक्षयन्ति सम मांसानि परकुट्य विधिवत तदा ॥ १-६३-२३ ॥
'Some forest dwellers created fire and properly ignited it, then cooked and consumed the meat according to their customs.' ॥ 1-63-23 ॥

ke cida agnima athòtpAdya samidhya ca vanecarAH bhakSayanti sama mAMsAni parakuTya vidhivata tadA ॥ 1-63-23 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्र के चिद गजा मत्ता बलिनः शस्त्रविक्षताः संकॊच्याग्र करान भीताः परद्रवन्ति सम वेगिताः ॥ १-६३-२४ ॥
'And many strong elephants, maddened with the wounds they received and alarmed beyond measure, fled with trunks raised on high.' ॥ 1-63-24 ॥

tatra ke cida gajA mattA balinaH zastravikSatAH saMkòcyAgra karAna bhItAH paradravanti sama vegitAH ॥ 1-63-24 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशकृन मूत्रं सृजन्तश च कषरन्तः शॊणितं बहु वन्या गजवरास तत्र ममृदुर मनुजान बहून ॥ १-६३-२५ ॥
'And those wild elephants, betraying the usual symptoms of alarm by urinating and ejecting the contents of their stomachs and vomiting blood in large quantities, trampled, as they ran, many warriors to death.' ॥ 1-63-25 ॥

zakRna mUtraM sRjantaza ca kaSarantaH zòNitaM bahu vanyA gajavarAsa tatra mamRdura manujAna bahUna ॥ 1-63-25 ॥
