अर्थशास्त्रम इदं पुण्यं धर्मशास्त्रम इदं परम मॊक्षशास्त्रम इदं परॊक्तं वयासेनामित बुद्धिना ।। १-५६-२१ ।।

sanskrit

'This history is the high and sacred science of Dharma, Artha, and also of Moksha; it hath been so said by Vyasa himself of mind that is immeasurable.' ।। 1-56-21 ।।

english translation

arthazAstrama idaM puNyaM dharmazAstrama idaM parama mòkSazAstrama idaM paròktaM vayAsenAmita buddhinA || 1-56-21 ||

'This history is recited in the present age and will be recited in the future. They that hear it, read, have sons and servants always obedient to them and doing their behests.' ।। 1-56-22 ।।

'They who hear, without the spirit of fault finding, the story of the birth of the Bharata princes, can have no fear of maladies, let alone the fear of the other world.' ।। 1-56-24 ।।

'To enhance the reputation of the noble-hearted Pandavas and other Kshatriyas well-versed in all fields of knowledge, possessing high spirits, and already renowned for their deeds in the world, Krishna-Dwaipayana, inspired by the noble intention of benefiting humanity, has crafted this composition.' ।। 1-56-25 ।।
