ततः संमन्त्र्य सचिवैर वृषदुःशासनादिभिः धृतराष्ट्रम अनुज्ञाप्य जातुषं गृहम आदिशत ।। १-५५-१६ ।।

sanskrit

'After consulting with his ministers, including Vrishadharbha, and other advisors, Vidura obtained permission from Dhritarashtra and directed the establishment of Yudhishthira in the kingdom.' ।। 1-55-16 ।।

english translation

tataH saMmantrya sacivaira vRSaduHzAsanAdibhiH dhRtarASTrama anujJApya jAtuSaM gRhama Adizata || 1-55-16 ||

तत्र तान वासयाम आस पाण्डवान अमितौजसः अदाहयच च विस्रब्धान पावकेन पुनस तदा ।। १-५५-१७ ।।

sanskrit

'Out of affection for his children and a desire for sovereignty, King Dhritarashtra, in a tactful move, sent the Pandavas to Varanavata. Departing from Hastinapura with their mother, Vidura, foreseeing impending danger, provided them with guidance on how to navigate through it.' ।। 1-55-17 ।।

english translation

tatra tAna vAsayAma Asa pANDavAna amitaujasaH adAhayaca ca visrabdhAna pAvakena punasa tadA || 1-55-17 ||

विदुरस्यैव वचनात खनित्री विहिता ततः मॊक्षयाम आस यॊगेन ते मुक्ताः पराद्रवन भयात ।। १-५५-१८ ।।

sanskrit

'The sons of Kunti arrived at the town of Varanavata and, in accordance with Dhritarashtra's command, resided there with their mother. Following Vidura's guidance, they spent a year in the palace made of lac, vigilantly safeguarding themselves from Purochana. Additionally, they had a secret underground passage constructed as advised by Vidura.' ।। 1-55-18 ।।

vidurasyaiva vacanAta khanitrI vihitA tataH mòkSayAma Asa yògena te muktAH parAdravana bhayAta || 1-55-18 ||

ततॊ महावने घॊरे हिडिम्बं नाम राक्षसम भीमसेनॊ ऽवधीत करुद्धॊ भुवि भीमपराक्रमः ।। १-५५-१९ ।।

sanskrit

'Fearing exposure and retribution from the sons of Dhritarashtra, the Pandavas, after setting the house of lac ablaze and ensuring the death of Purochana, escaped with their mother. In the forest near a spring, they encountered a Rakshasa. However, apprehensive about the potential consequences of revealing their identity, the Pandavas fled under the cover of darkness. It was in this instance that Bhima married Hidimva, the sister of the Rakshasa he had earlier slain, and Ghatotkacha was born of this union.' ।। 1-55-19 ।।

tatò mahAvane ghòre hiDimbaM nAma rAkSasama bhImasenò 'vadhIta karuddhò bhuvi bhImaparAkramaH || 1-55-19 ||

अथ संधाय ते वीरा एकचक्रां वरजंस तदा बरह्मरूपधरा भूत्वा मात्रा सह परंतपाः ।। १-५५-२० ।।

sanskrit

'Following their firm vows and deep knowledge of the Vedas, the Pandavas proceeded to a town named Ekachakra, adopting the guise of Brahmacharins. In that town, they resided for a period in the house of a Brahmana, practicing temperance and abstinence.' ।। 1-55-20 ।।

atha saMdhAya te vIrA ekacakrAM varajaMsa tadA barahmarUpadharA bhUtvA mAtrA saha paraMtapAH || 1-55-20 ||
