यः पाण्डुं धृतराष्ट्रं च विदुरं चाप्य अजीजनत शंतनॊः संततिं तन्वन पुण्यकीर्तिर महायशाः ॥ १-५४-६ ॥
'Of sacred deeds and great fame, he begot Pandu and Dhritarashtra and Vidura to continue the line of Santanu.' ॥ 1-54-6 ॥
english translation
जनमेजयस्य राजर्षेः स तद यज्ञसदस तदा विवेश शिष्यैः सहितॊ वेदवेदाङ्गपारगैः ॥ १-५४-७ ॥
'And the high-souled Rishi, with his disciples all conversant with the Vedas and their branches, entered the sacrificial pavilion of the royal sage, Janamejaya.' ॥ 1-54-7 ॥
english translation
तत्र राजानम आसीनं ददर्श जनमेजयम वृतं सदस्यैर बहुभिर देवैर इव पुरंदरम ॥ १-५४-८ ॥
'And he saw that the king Janamejaya was seated in the sacrificial region like the god Indra, surrounded by numerous Sadasyas, by kings of various countries whose coronal locks had undergone the sacred bath, and by competent Ritwiks like unto Brahman himself.' ॥ 1-54-8 ॥
english translation
तथा मूध्वावसिक्तैश च नानाजनपदेश्वरैः ऋत्विग्भिर देवकल्पैश च कुशलैर यज्ञसंस्तरे ॥ १-५४-९ ॥
'And that foremost one of Bharata's race, the royal sage Janamejaya, beholding the Rishi come, advanced quickly with his followers and relatives in great joy.' ॥ 1-54-9 ॥
english translation
जनमेजयस तु राजर्षिर दृष्ट्वा तम ऋषिम आगतम सगणॊ ऽबयुद्ययौ तूर्णं परीत्या भरतसत्तमः ॥ १-५४-१० ॥
'Observing the sage approaching, Janamejaya, the best among the Bharatas, quickly rose from his seat with his attendants and respectfully went forward to meet him.' ॥ 1-54-10 ॥
