तच च सर्वं स राजेन्द्रः परतिजग्राह वीर्यवान कृत्वा च तेषां कार्याणि गम्यताम इत्य उवाच तान ॥ १-३९-२६ ॥
'And that foremost of kings, of great prowess, accepted those offerings.' ॥ 1-39-26 ॥
english translation
गतेषु तेषु नागेषु तापसच छद्म रूपिषु अमात्यान सुहृदश चैव परॊवाच स नराधिपः ॥ १-३९-२७ ॥
'And after their business was finished, he said up to them, 'Retire.' Then after those snakes disguised as ascetics had gone away, the king addressed his ministers and friends.' ॥ 1-39-27 ॥

भक्षयन्तु भवन्तॊ वै सवादूनीमानि सर्वशः तापसैर उपनीतानि फलानि सहिता मया ॥ १-३९-२८ ॥
'Partake in these delicious fruits brought by the ascetics with me.' ॥ 1-39-28 ॥

ततॊ राजा ससचिवः फलान्य आदातुम ऐच्छत यद गृहीतं फलं राज्ञा तत्र कृमिर अभूद अणुः हरस्वकः कृष्ण नयनस ताम्रॊ वर्णेन शौनक ॥ १-३९-२९ ॥
'Impelled by Fate and the words of the Rishi, the king, with his ministers, felt the desire to eat those fruits. The particular fruit, within which Takshaka had entered, was taken by the king himself for eating. And when he was eating it, there appeared, O Saunaka, an ugly insect out of it, of shape scarcely discernible, of eyes black, and of coppery color.' ॥ 1-39-29 ॥

स तं गृह्य नृपश्रेष्ठः सचिवान इदम अब्रवीत अस्तम अभ्येति सविता विषाद अद्य न मे भयम ॥ १-३९-३० ॥
'And that foremost of kings, taking that insect, addressed his councilors, saying, 'The sun is setting; today I have no more tear from poison.' ॥ 1-39-30 ॥
