[वै] एवम उक्ता ततः शार्ङ्गी पुत्रान उत्सृज्य खाण्डवे जगाम तवरिता देशं कषेमम अग्नेर अनाश्रयम ॥ १-२२२-१६ ॥
'Vaisampayana narrated, 'Upon hearing her sons' words, the parent bird left them in Khandava and swiftly sought refuge in a place devoid of fire and safe.' ॥ 1-222-16 ॥
english translation
ततस तीक्ष्णार्चिर अभ्यागाज जवलितॊ हव्यवाहनः यत्र शार्ङ्गा बभूवुस ते मन्दपालस्य पुत्रकाः ॥ १-२२२-१७ ॥
'Meanwhile, Agni hastened with fierce flames towards the location where Mandapala's sons were.' ॥ 1-222-17 ॥

ते शार्ङ्गा जवलनं दृष्ट्वा जवलितं सवेन तेजसा जरितारिस ततॊ वाचं शरावयाम आस पावकम ॥ १-२२२-१८ ॥
'The young birds witnessed the approaching inferno. It was then that Jaritari, the eldest of the four, spoke aloud in the presence of Agni.' ॥ 1-222-18 ॥
