[तापसाह] गराहाः पञ्च वसन्त्य एषु हरन्ति च तपॊधनान अत एतानि वर्ज्यन्ते तीर्थानि कुरुनन्दन ॥ १-२०८-६ ॥
'Hearing this, the ascetics replied, "In these waters dwell five large crocodiles that seize any ascetics who happen to bathe in them. For this reason, O descendant of Kuru's race, these waters are avoided."' ॥ 1-208-6 ॥

[वै] तेषां शरुत्वा महाबाहुर वार्यमाणस तपॊधनैः जगाम तानि तीर्थानि दरष्टुं पुरुषसत्तमः ॥ १-२०८-७ ॥
'Vaisampayana continued, 'Upon hearing these words of the ascetics, that foremost of men endowed with mighty arms, despite their dissuasion, proceeded to behold those waters.'' ॥ 1-208-7 ॥

ततः सौभद्रम आसाद्य महर्षेस तीर्थम उत्तमम विगाह्य तरसा शूरः सनानं चक्रे परंतपः ॥ १-२०८-८ ॥
'Having reached the excellent sacred water named Saubhadra, named after a great sage, the brave warrior, who scorches his enemies, suddenly plunged into it to bathe.' ॥ 1-208-8 ॥

अथ तं पुरुषव्याघ्रम अन्तर्जलचरॊ महान निजग्राह जले गराहः कुन्तीपुत्रं धनंजयम ॥ १-२०८-९ ॥
'As soon as that hero among men had plunged into the water, a great crocodile lurking within seized him by the leg.' ॥ 1-208-9 ॥

स तम आदाय कौन्तेयॊ विस्फुरन्तं जले चरम उदतिष्ठन महाबाहुर बलेन बलिनां वरः ॥ १-२०८-१० ॥
'However, the strong-armed Dhananjaya, the son of Kunti, the foremost among men endowed with strength, grasped the struggling water beast and forcefully dragged it to the shore.' ॥ 1-208-10 ॥
