विचित्रवीर्यस्य तथा राज्ये संप्रतिपादनम धर्मस्य नृषु संभूतिर अणी माण्डव्य शापजा ॥ १-२-८१ ॥
' Vichitravirya, and his placing the latter on the throne: ' ॥ 1-2-81 ॥

vicitravIryasya tathA rAjye saMpratipAdanama dharmasya nRSu saMbhUtira aNI mANDavya zApajA ॥ 1-2-81 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकृष्णद्वैपायनाच चैव परसूतिर वरदानजा धृतराष्ट्रस्य पाण्डॊश च पाण्डवानां च संभवः ॥ १-२-८२ ॥
' The birth of Dharma among men in consequence of the curse of Animondavya; the births of Dhritarashtra and Pandu through the potency of Vyasa's blessings and also the birth of the Pandavas; ' ॥ 1-2-82 ॥

kRSNadvaipAyanAca caiva parasUtira varadAnajA dhRtarASTrasya pANDòza ca pANDavAnAM ca saMbhavaH ॥ 1-2-82 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवारणावत यात्रा च मन्त्रॊ दुर्यॊधनस्य च विदुरस्य च वाक्येन सुरुङ्गॊपक्रम करिया ॥ १-२-८३ ॥
' Duryodhana's schemes to dispatch the sons of Pandu to Varanavata, along with the sinister machinations of Dhritarashtra's sons against the Pandavas. Subsequently, Vidura, a staunch supporter of the Pandavas, provides wise counsel to Yudhishthira in the foreign tongue, advising on the strategic digging of a pit. ' ॥ 1-2-83 ॥

vAraNAvata yAtrA ca mantrò duryòdhanasya ca vidurasya ca vAkyena suruGgòpakrama kariyA ॥ 1-2-83 ॥

' The encounter with the formidable Hidimba in the dense forest by the Pandavas, and the emergence of Ghatothkacha, is vividly recounted in this narrative. ' ॥ 1-2-84 ॥

pANDavAnAM vane ghòre hiDimbAyAza ca darzanama ghaTòtkacasya còtpattira atraiva parikIrtitA ॥ 1-2-84 ॥

' The meeting of the Pandavas with Vyasa and by his advice their stay in disguise in the house of a Brahmana in the city of Ekachakra; the destruction of the Asura Vaka, and the amazement of the populace at the sight; ' ॥ 1-2-85 ॥
