अंशावतरणं चात्र देवानां परिकीर्तितम दैत्यानां दानवानां च यक्षाणां च महौजसाम ॥ १-२-७६ ॥
' The partial incarnations of deities, the generation of Danavas and Yakshas of great prowess.' ॥ 1-2-76 ॥
english translation
aMzAvataraNaM cAtra devAnAM parikIrtitama daityAnAM dAnavAnAM ca yakSANAM ca mahaujasAma ॥ 1-2-76 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptनागानाम अथ सर्पाणां गन्धर्वाणां पतत्रिणाम अन्येषां चैव भूतानां विविधानां समुद्भवः ॥ १-२-७७ ॥
' The origin of snakes and serpents, as well as the king of birds (Garuda),And the diverse manifestations of other beings, including Gandharvas and celestial beings, is presented.' ॥ 1-2-77 ॥

nAgAnAma atha sarpANAM gandharvANAM patatriNAma anyeSAM caiva bhUtAnAM vividhAnAM samudbhavaH ॥ 1-2-77 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवसूनां पुनर उत्पत्तिर भागीरथ्यां महात्मनाम शंतनॊर वेश्मनि पुनस तेषां चारॊहणं दिवि ॥ १-२-७८ ॥
' This parva also describes the greatness of Bhagirathi, and the births of the Vasus in the house of Santanu and their ascension to heaven.' ॥ 1-2-78 ॥

vasUnAM punara utpattira bhAgIrathyAM mahAtmanAma zaMtanòra vezmani punasa teSAM cAròhaNaM divi ॥ 1-2-78 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतेजॊ ऽंशानां च संघाताद भीष्मस्याप्य अत्र संभवः राज्यान निवर्तनं चैव बरह्मचर्य वरते सथितिः ॥ १-२-७८ ॥
' In this parva is also narrated the birth of Bhishma uniting in himself portions of the energies of the other Vasus, his renunciation of royalty and adoption of the Brahmacharya mode of life,' ॥ 1-2-79 ॥

tejò 'MzAnAM ca saMghAtAda bhISmasyApya atra saMbhavaH rAjyAna nivartanaM caiva barahmacarya varate sathitiH ॥ 1-2-78 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपरतिज्ञा पालनं चैव रक्षा चित्राङ्गदस्य च हते चित्राङ्गदे चैव रक्षा भरातुर यवीयसः ॥ १-२-८० ॥
' His adherence to his vows, his protection of Chitrangada, and after the death of Chitrangada, his protection of his younger brother.' ॥ 1-2-80 ॥
