सावित्र्य औद्दालकीयं च वैन्यॊपाख्यानम एव च रामायणम उपाख्यानम अत्रैव बहुविस्तरम ।। १-२-१२६ ।।

' Here, the extensive narrative includes the tales of Savitri, Uddalaka's son, the story of Vaanaya, and unfolds the detailed account of the epic Ramayana.' ।। 1-2-126 ।।

कर्णस्य परिमॊषॊ ऽतर कुण्डलाभ्यां पुरंदरात आरणेयम उपाख्यानं यत्र धर्मॊ ऽनवशात सुतम जग्मुर लब्धवरा यत्र पाण्डवाः पश्चिमां दिशम ।। १-२-१२७ ।।

'Here also is narrated the story of Savitri; then Karna's deprivation by Indra of his ear-rings; then the presentation to Karna by the gratified Indra of a Sakti (missile weapon) which had the virtue of killing only one person against whom it might be hurled; then the story called Aranya in which Dharma (the god of justice) advised his son (Yudhishthira); in which, besides is recited how the Pandavas after having obtained a boon went towards the west.' ।। 1-2-127 ।।

एतद आरण्यकं पर्व तृतीयं परिकीर्तितम अत्राध्याय शते दवे तु संख्याते परमर्षिणा एकॊन सप्ततिश चैव तथाध्यायाः परकीर्तिताः ।। १-२-१२८ ।।

'This marks the narration of the third segment, the Aaranyakaparva, wherein a total of 107 chapters are meticulously recounted by the eminent sage, with seventy-seven chapters dedicated to various narratives.' ।। 1-2-128 ।।

' The extensive Parva that comes next is called Virata. The Pandavas arriving at the dominions of Virata saw in a cemetery on the outskirts of the city a large shami tree whereon they kept their weapons.' ।। 1-2-130 ।।
