[स] अथावरण मुख्यानि नानाप्रहरणानि च परगृह्याभ्यद्रवन देवान सहिता दैत्यदानवाः ।। १-१७-१ ।।

'Amid the surroundings, diverse occurrences transpired, prompting gods and demons to seek shelter elsewhere.' ।। 1-17-1 ।।

english translation

[sa] athAvaraNa mukhyAni nAnApraharaNAni ca paragRhyAbhyadravana devAna sahitA daityadAnavAH || 1-17-1 ||

ततस तद अमृतं देवॊ विष्णुर आदाय वीर्यवान जहार दानवेन्द्रेभ्यॊ नरेण सहितः परभुः ।। १-१७-२ ।।

'Then, Lord Vishnu, possessing the divine nectar, took on a mighty form and vanquished the demons, along with their king, the great enemy, accompanied by a man.' ।। 1-17-2 ।।

english translation

tatasa tada amRtaM devò viSNura AdAya vIryavAna jahAra dAnavendrebhyò nareNa sahitaH parabhuH || 1-17-2 ||

ततॊ देवगणाः सर्वे पपुस तद अमृतं तदा विष्णॊः सकाशात संप्राप्य संभ्रमे तुमुले सति ।। १-१७-३ ।।

'Then, all the gods partook of that nectar, obtaining it directly from Vishnu, amidst the tumultuous and intense commotion.' ।। 1-17-3 ।।

english translation

tatò devagaNAH sarve papusa tada amRtaM tadA viSNòH sakAzAta saMprApya saMbhrame tumule sati || 1-17-3 ||

ततः पिबत्सु तत कालं देवेष्व अमृतम ईप्सितम राहुर विबुधरूपेण दानवः परापिबत तदा ।। १-१७-४ ।।

'And all the gods at that time of great fright drank the Amrita with delight, receiving it from Vishnu. And while the gods were partaking of it, after which they had so much hankered, a Danava named Rahu was also drinking it among them in the guise of a god.' ।। 1-17-4 ।।

english translation

tataH pibatsu tata kAlaM deveSva amRtama Ipsitama rAhura vibudharUpeNa dAnavaH parApibata tadA || 1-17-4 ||

तस्य कण्ठम अनुप्राप्ते दानवस्यामृते तदा आख्यातं चन्द्रसूर्याभ्यां सुराणां हितकाम्यया ।। १-१७-५ ।।

'When the nectar had just reached Rahu's throat, Surya and Soma recognized him and promptly informed the gods of this development.' ।। 1-17-5 ।।

english translation

tasya kaNThama anuprApte dAnavasyAmRte tadA AkhyAtaM candrasUryAbhyAM surANAM hitakAmyayA || 1-17-5 ||
