तथेति चाब्रवीद विष्णुर बरह्मणा सह भार्गव ततॊ ऽनन्तः समुत्थाय बरह्मणा परिचॊदितः नारायणेन चाप्य उक्तस तस्मिन कर्मणि वीर्यवान ।। १-१६-६ ।।

sanskrit

'Thus addressed by the Brahmana and Vishnu, Lord Ananta (Shesha) then arose and, empowered by Narayana, actively participated in that task with great strength.' ।। 1-16-6 ।।

english translation

tatheti cAbravIda viSNura barahmaNA saha bhArgava tatò 'nantaH samutthAya barahmaNA paricòditaH nArAyaNena cApya uktasa tasmina karmaNi vIryavAna || 1-16-6 ||

hk transliteration

अथ पर्वतराजानं तम अनन्तॊ महाबलः उज्जहार बलाद बरह्मन सवनं सवनौकसम ।। १-१६-७ ।।

sanskrit

'Vishnu, with his lotus eyes, assigned the formidable task to the mighty Ananta, the sovereign serpent.Under the guidance of both Brahman and Narayana, the mighty Ananta effortlessly uprooted the mountain, along with its forests and inhabitants.' ।। 1-16-7 ।।

english translation

atha parvatarAjAnaM tama anantò mahAbalaH ujjahAra balAda barahmana savanaM savanaukasama || 1-16-7 ||

hk transliteration

ततस तेन सुराः सार्धं समुद्रम उपतस्थिरे तम ऊचुर अमृतार्थाय निर्मथिष्यामहे जलम ।। १-१६-८ ।।

sanskrit

'The gods, accompanied by Ananta, reached the shore of the Ocean and addressed it, saying, "O Ocean, we have come to churn your waters to obtain nectar."' ।। 1-16-8 ।।

english translation

tatasa tena surAH sArdhaM samudrama upatasthire tama Ucura amRtArthAya nirmathiSyAmahe jalama || 1-16-8 ||

hk transliteration

अपां पतिर अथॊवाच ममाप्य अंशॊ भवेत ततः सॊढास्मि विपुलं मर्दं मन्दरभ्रमणाद इति ।। १-१६-९ ।।

sanskrit

'The Ocean responded, "Agreed, but I must have a portion, for I can endure the tremendous upheaval caused by the Mandara mountain in my waters."' ।। 1-16-9 ।।

english translation

apAM patira athòvAca mamApya aMzò bhaveta tataH sòDhAsmi vipulaM mardaM mandarabhramaNAda iti || 1-16-9 ||

hk transliteration

ऊचुश च कूर्मराजानम अकूपारं सुरासुराः गिरेर अधिष्ठानम अस्य भवान भवितुम अर्हति ।। १-१६-१० ।।

sanskrit

'The gods approached the Tortoise-king and informed him, "O King of Tortoises, you are to bear the weight of the Mandara mountain on your back."' ।। 1-16-10 ।।

Ucuza ca kUrmarAjAnama akUpAraM surAsurAH girera adhiSThAnama asya bhavAna bhavituma arhati || 1-16-10 ||
