[वै] ते परतस्थुः पुरस्कृत्य मातरं पुरुषर्षभाः समैर उदङ्मुखैर मार्गैर यथॊद्दिष्टं परंतपाः ॥ १-१५८-१ ॥
'Vaisampayana said, 'After Vyasa had departed, the Pandavas, those foremost among men, saluted the Brahmana, bade him farewell, and set out towards Panchala with joyful hearts, their mother leading the way.'' ॥ 1-158-1 ॥
english translation
[vai] te paratasthuH puraskRtya mAtaraM puruSarSabhAH samaira udaGmukhaira mArgaira yathòddiSTaM paraMtapAH ॥ 1-158-1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptते गच्छन्तस तव अहॊरात्रं तीर्थं सॊमश्रवायणम आसेदुः पुरुषव्याघ्रा गङ्गायां पाण्डुनन्दनाः ॥ १-१५८-२ ॥
'Those tigers among men, the sons of Pandu, traveling day and night, reached the holy place of Somashravayana on the banks of the Ganges.' ॥ 1-158-2 ॥
english translation
te gacchantasa tava ahòrAtraM tIrthaM sòmazravAyaNama AseduH puruSavyAghrA gaGgAyAM pANDunandanAH ॥ 1-158-2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउल्मुकं तु समुद्यम्य तेषाम अग्रे धनंजयः परकाशार्थं ययौ तत्र रक्षार्थं च महायशाः ॥ १-१५८-३ ॥
'Raising a torch, the illustrious Dhananjaya (Arjuna) went ahead of them to provide light and for their protection.' ॥ 1-158-3 ॥
english translation
ulmukaM tu samudyamya teSAma agre dhanaMjayaH parakAzArthaM yayau tatra rakSArthaM ca mahAyazAH ॥ 1-158-3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतत्र गङ्गा जले रम्ये विविक्ते करीडयन सत्रियः ईर्ष्युर गन्धर्वराजः सम जलक्रीडाम उपागतः ॥ १-१५८-४ ॥
'And it so happened that at that time, the proud king of the Gandharvas, along with his wives, was sporting in the delightful and secluded waters of the Ganga.' ॥ 1-158-4 ॥

tatra gaGgA jale ramye vivikte karIDayana satriyaH IrSyura gandharvarAjaH sama jalakrIDAma upAgataH ॥ 1-158-4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशब्दं तेषां स शुश्राव नदीं समुपसर्पताम तेन शब्देन चाविष्टश चुक्रॊध बलवद बली ॥ १-१५८-५ ॥
'The king of the Gandharvas heard the footsteps of the Pandavas as they approached the river. Enraged by the sound of their approach, the mighty Gandharva, inflamed with wrath.' ॥ 1-158-5 ॥

zabdaM teSAM sa zuzrAva nadIM samupasarpatAma tena zabdena cAviSTaza cukròdha balavada balI ॥ 1-158-5 ॥
