स दृष्ट्वा पाण्डवांस तत्र सह मात्रा परंतपान विस्फारयन धनुर घॊरम इदं वचनम अव्रवीत ॥ १-१५८-६ ॥
'Seeing the Pandavas there with their mother, those scorchers of foes, he strung his dreadful bow and spoke these words.' ॥ 1-158-6 ॥
english translation
sa dRSTvA pANDavAMsa tatra saha mAtrA paraMtapAna visphArayana dhanura ghòrama idaM vacanama avravIta ॥ 1-158-6 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसंध्या संरज्यते घॊरा पूर्वरात्रागमेषु या अशीतिभिस तरुटैर हीनं तं मुहूर्तं परचक्षते ॥ १-१५८-७ ॥
'The ominous twilight just before nightfall, that very instant, is deemed deficient by the discerning among the eightfold division.' ॥ 1-158-7 ॥

saMdhyA saMrajyate ghòrA pUrvarAtrAgameSu yA azItibhisa taruTaira hInaM taM muhUrtaM paracakSate ॥ 1-158-7 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptविहितं कामचाराणां यक्षगन्धर्वरक्षसाम शेषम अन्यन मनुष्याणां कामचारम इह समृतम ॥ १-१५८-८ ॥
'The allotted time for the tasks of Yakshas, Gandharvas, and Rakshasas has been ordained, while the remaining time is designated for other human activities.' ॥ 1-158-8 ॥

vihitaM kAmacArANAM yakSagandharvarakSasAma zeSama anyana manuSyANAM kAmacArama iha samRtama ॥ 1-158-8 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptलॊभात परचारं चरतस तासु वेलासु वै नरान उपक्रान्ता निगृह्णीमॊ राक्षसैः सह बालिशान ॥ १-१५८-९ ॥
'Therefore, if men, driven by greed, wander near us during those moments, both we and the Rakshasas slay those fools.' ॥ 1-158-9 ॥

lòbhAta paracAraM caratasa tAsu velAsu vai narAna upakrAntA nigRhNImò rAkSasaiH saha bAlizAna ॥ 1-158-9 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptततॊ रात्रौ पराप्नुवतॊ जलं बरह्मविदॊ जनाः गर्हयन्ति नरान सर्वान बलस्थान नृपतीन अपि ॥ १-१५८-१० ॥
'Hence, those versed in the Vedas never approve of such men—even kings leading their armies—who approach any water bodies at such times.' ॥ 1-158-10 ॥

tatò rAtrau parApnuvatò jalaM barahmavidò janAH garhayanti narAna sarvAna balasthAna nRpatIna api ॥ 1-158-10 ॥
