आसीत तपॊवने का चिद ऋषेः कन्या महात्मनः विलग्नमध्या सुश्रॊणी सुभ्रूः सर्वगुणान्विता ॥ १-१५७-६ ॥

'An illustrious Rishi, residing in a certain hermitage, had a daughter with a slender waist, beautiful lips, and finely shaped eyebrows. She was endowed with every virtue and accomplishment.' ॥ 1-157-6 ॥

कर्मभिः सवकृतैः सा तु दुर्भगा समपद्यत नाध्यगच्छत पतिं सा तु कन्या रूपवती सती ॥ १-१५७-७ ॥

'Due to the consequences of her past actions, the fair maiden faced great misfortune. Though virtuous and beautiful, she remained unmarried.' ॥ 1-157-7 ॥

तपस तप्तुम अथारेभे पत्यर्थम असुखा ततः तॊषयाम आस तपसा सा किलॊग्रेण शंकरम ॥ १-१५७-८ ॥

'With a heavy heart, she began practicing ascetic penances to attain a husband. Soon, pleased by her intense austerity, Lord Shiva became favorable to her and addressed the illustrious maiden, saying.' ॥ 1-157-8 ॥

तस्याः स भगवांस तुष्टस ताम उवाच तपस्विनीम वरं वरय भद्रं ते वरदॊ ऽसमीति भामिनि ॥ १-१५७-९ ॥

'Pleased with her, the divine lord addressed the ascetic maiden, saying, "Ask for the boon you desire! May you be blessed! I am Sankara, ready to grant whatever you wish."' ॥ 1-157-9 ॥

'The maid, seeking her welfare, repeatedly implored the Supreme Lord, saying, "Grant me a husband endowed with every virtue."' ॥ 1-157-10 ॥
