तत्र नास्नातकः कश चिन न चासीद अव्रती दविजः तथैव नामहा भागः सॊ ऽपश्यत संशितव्रतौ ॥ १-१५५-६ ॥

'In that hermitage, every Brahmana was a graduate, each committed to strict vows, and all were exceptionally virtuous.' ॥ 1-155-6 ॥

tatra nAsnAtakaH kaza cina na cAsIda avratI davijaH tathaiva nAmahA bhAgaH sò 'pazyata saMzitavratau ॥ 1-155-6 ॥

याजॊपयाजौ बरह्मर्षी शाम्यन्तौ पृषतात्मजः संहिताध्ययने युक्तौ गॊत्रतश चापि काश्यपौ ॥ १-१५५-७ ॥

'The king encountered two Brahmana sages named Yaja and Upayaja, both deeply disciplined and possessing remarkable self-control, belonging to the highest echelon of their order. They were dedicated to the study of ancient scriptures and hailed from the lineage of Kasyapa.' ॥ 1-155-7 ॥

yAjòpayAjau barahmarSI zAmyantau pRSatAtmajaH saMhitAdhyayane yuktau gòtrataza cApi kAzyapau ॥ 1-155-7 ॥

तारणे युक्तरूपौ तौ बराह्मणाव ऋषिसत्तमौ स ताव आमन्त्रयाम आस सर्वकामैर अतन्द्रितः ॥ १-१५५-८ ॥

'These eminent Brahmanas were fully capable of assisting the king in achieving his goal. With great diligence and sincerity, the king began to court this pair of excellent Brahmanas.' ॥ 1-155-8 ॥

tAraNe yuktarUpau tau barAhmaNAva RSisattamau sa tAva AmantrayAma Asa sarvakAmaira atandritaH ॥ 1-155-8 ॥

बुद्ध्वा तयॊर बलं बुद्धिं कनीयांसम उपह्वरे परपेदे छन्दयन कामैर उपयाजं धृतव्रतम ॥ १-१५५-९ ॥

'After discerning the superior skills of the younger sage, the king privately courted Upayaja, who was known for his strict vows, by offering him every desirable acquisition.' ॥ 1-155-9 ॥

buddhvA tayòra balaM buddhiM kanIyAMsama upahvare parapede chandayana kAmaira upayAjaM dhRtavratama ॥ 1-155-9 ॥

पादशुश्रूषणे युक्तः परियवाक सर्वकामदः अर्हयित्वा यथान्यायम उपयाजम उवाच सः ॥ १-१५५-१० ॥

'Drupada, devotedly paying homage to Upayaja, constantly addressed him with sweet words and presented him with all kinds of worldly possessions.' ॥ 1-155-10 ॥
