येन मे कर्मणा बरह्मन पुत्रः सयाद दरॊण मृत्यवे उपयाज कृते तस्मिन गवां दातास्मि ते ऽरबुदम ॥ १-१५५-११ ॥
'O Upayaja, O Brahmana, if you perform those sacrificial rites by which I can obtain a son capable of defeating Drona, I promise you ten thousand cows or any other desirable gift you may prefer.' ॥ 1-155-11 ॥
english translation
यद वा ते ऽनयद दविजश्रेष्ठ मनसः सुप्रियं भवेत सर्वं तत ते परदाताहं न हि मे ऽसत्य अत्र संशयः ॥ १-१५५-१२ ॥
'If, O best of Brahmanas, this deed of mine becomes highly pleasing to your mind, then all that you desire shall be given to you by me. There is certainly no doubt about this.' ॥ 1-155-12 ॥
english translation
इत्य उक्तॊ नाहम इत्य एवं तम ऋषिः परत्युवाच ह आराधयिष्यन दरुपदः स तं पर्यचरत पुनः ॥ १-१५५-१३ ॥
'Having been addressed thus, the sage replied, "I cannot." King Drupada, accepting his response, then left and continued his efforts elsewhere.' ॥ 1-155-13 ॥
english translation
ततः संवत्सरस्यान्ते दरुपदं स दविजॊत्तमः उपयाजॊ ऽबरवीद राजन काले मधुरया गिरा ॥ १-१५५-१४ ॥
'Then, after the passing of a year, Upayaja, the foremost of Brahmanas, addressed Drupada in a gentle tone, saying.' ॥ 1-155-14 ॥
english translation
जयेष्ठॊ भराता ममागृह्णाद विचरन वननिर्झरे अपरिज्ञात शौचायां भूमौ निपतितं फलम ॥ १-१५५-१५ ॥
'O monarch, my elder brother Yaja once picked up a fruit while wandering through the dense forest, without considering the purity of the place.' ॥ 1-155-15 ॥
