बराह्मणाः कस्य वक्तव्याः कस्य वा छन्द चारिणः गुणैर एते हि वास्यन्ते कामगाः पक्षिणॊ यथा ॥ १-१४८-११ ॥
'Brahmins can never be confined within the dominion of any one ruler, for they are independent and free. They live akin to birds, traversing all lands with complete freedom.' ॥ 1-148-11 ॥
english translation
राजानं परथमं विन्देत ततॊ भार्यां ततॊ धनम तरयस्य संचये चास्य जञातीन पुत्रांश च धारयेत ॥ १-१४८-१२ ॥
'It has been said that one should first secure a good king, then a wife, and then wealth. It is through the acquisition of these three that one can rescue his relatives and sons.' ॥ 1-148-12 ॥
english translation
विपरीतं मया चेदं तरयं सर्वम उपार्जितम त इमाम आपदं पराप्य भृशं तप्स्यामहे वयम ॥ १-१४८-१३ ॥
'However, in acquiring these three, my actions have been contrary. Therefore, now plunged into a sea of danger, I suffer greatly.' ॥ 1-148-13 ॥
english translation
सॊ ऽयम अस्मान अनुप्राप्तॊ वारः कुलविनाशनः भॊजनं पुरुषश चैकः परदेयं वेतनं मया ॥ १-१४८-१४ ॥
'I am now faced with the calamity that destroys families. I must provide the Rakshasa with the specified meal and a human being as payment.' ॥ 1-148-14 ॥

न च मे विद्यते वित्तं संक्रेतुं पुरुषं कव चित सुहृज्जनं परदातुं च न शक्ष्यामि कथं चन गतिं चापि न पश्यामि तस्मान मॊक्षाय रक्षसः ॥ १-१४८-१५ ॥
' I lack the wealth to purchase a person. I cannot bear to part with any member of my family, and I see no way to escape the clutches of the Rakshasa.' ॥ 1-148-15 ॥
