तरिषु लॊकेषु यद राज्यं धर्मविद्यॊ ऽरहते नृपः सॊ ऽयं भूमौ परिश्रान्तः शेते पराकृतवत कथम ॥ १-१३८-२१ ॥

'The king, knower of dharma, who deserves to rule the three worlds, how does he lie on the ground, exhausted, as if defeated?' ॥ 1-138-21 ॥

english translation

tariSu lòkeSu yada rAjyaM dharmavidyò 'rahate nRpaH sò 'yaM bhUmau parizrAntaH zete parAkRtavata kathama ॥ 1-138-21 ॥

अयं नीलाम्बुदश्यामॊ नरेष्व अप्रतिमॊ भुवि शेते पराकृतवद भूमाव अतॊ दुःखतरं नु किम ॥ १-१३८-२२ ॥

'This one, dark as a blue cloud, unmatched among men on earth, lies on the ground as if defeated. What could be more sorrowful than this?' ॥ 1-138-22 ॥

ayaM nIlAmbudazyAmò nareSva apratimò bhuvi zete parAkRtavada bhUmAva atò duHkhataraM nu kima ॥ 1-138-22 ॥

अश्विनाव इव देवानां याव इमौ रूपसंपदा तौ पराकृतवद अद्येमौ परसुप्तौ धरणीतले ॥ १-१३८-२३ ॥

'These two, who are like the Ashvins among the gods in their beauty and prowess, today lie fast asleep on the surface of the earth as if defeated.' ॥ 1-138-23 ॥

azvinAva iva devAnAM yAva imau rUpasaMpadA tau parAkRtavada adyemau parasuptau dharaNItale ॥ 1-138-23 ॥

जञातयॊ यस्य नैव सयुर विषमाः कुलपांसनाः स जीवेत सुसुखं लॊके गरामे दरुम इवैकजः ॥ १-१३८-२४ ॥

'He whose relatives are never indecent or disgracing the family, he lives happily in the world, like a solitary tree in a village.' ॥ 1-138-24 ॥

jaJAtayò yasya naiva sayura viSamAH kulapAMsanAH sa jIveta susukhaM lòke garAme daruma ivaikajaH ॥ 1-138-24 ॥

एकॊ वृक्षॊ हि यॊ गरामे भवेत पर्णफलान्वितः चैत्यॊ भवति निर्ज्ञातिर अर्चनीयः सुपूजितः ॥ १-१३८-२५ ॥

'A solitary tree in a village, filled with leaves and fruits, becomes a sacred object, free from relatives, worthy of worship, and highly revered.' ॥ 1-138-25 ॥

ekò vRkSò hi yò garAme bhaveta parNaphalAnvitaH caityò bhavati nirjJAtira arcanIyaH supUjitaH ॥ 1-138-25 ॥
